Artist: DJ Mister Hustla
Album: Overseas Hustle Vol: 1
Label: Poe Boy
This week in mixtape review, Poe Boy teams up with DJ Mister Hustla for an international grind: Overseas Hustle: Volume 1, hosted by Jimmy HenneC and Bullet.
The mixtape starts out with a crunk banger from Lil Jon called, “I Do” featuring Snoop Dogg & Swizz Beatz. It also features other club jumpoffs like Pretty Boyz’s, “Tonight” and a futuristic dance track, “One Day,” from overseas reggae/hiphop group American Yard. Lil Jon also teams up with Pitbull and Michael Montano for, “Floor On Fire” that sounds like a calypso and Hispanic dance music mix, which is perfect for the islanders with carnival being around the corner.
Miami’s own Mista Mac has a smash hit on the mixtape, “Drop That” sampling Rockell’s 90’s smash hit “In a Dream” featuring Brisco, Ballgreezy, and Florida. For the younger audience, there’s Auburn’s “Jerk Song” feat. Mann that sounds like a new jerk anthem.
Also, on this Overseas Hustle Vol: 1 there’s “I Dont Give A Fuck,” real gutta street grindin music by Bali with help from Papa Duck and Ace Hood. There’s also more street anthems like, Blake’s “Do Rite” & Poe Boy’s very own Billy Blue with his instant hood classic, “Story Of My Life” featuring Akon.
The mixtape is pretty well-rounded considering there’s some lyricists that contribute like Ca$his, Eminem’s protege, with his track “Bigga Then Me” where he discusses his struggles and accomplishments in the rap game. Even Lovejones‘s “Mike Schpitz” goes hard, on this track Lovejones uses off the wall metaphors and his flow is crazy and you get the feeling that the old hiphop is comin back.
Ladies you weren’t left out, DJ Mister Hustla features Papa Duck’s “Bay Day” with Deebo that sounds like a 2009 “Shawty,” & a sultry track from Young Dunny and Twyce called “Tell Me” that sounds like baby-making music.
DJ Mister Hustla provides a Bonus track from the foreign group American Yard, a love song called “Letting Go.” The members of this group have great chemistry and they compliment each other and adds some diversity to the mixtape.
Overall, this mixtape is heat & can be played from the club, to the bedroom, the streets, and even internationally if your trying to get your Overseas Hustle on!
