Artist: Flo Rida
Mixtape: Freestyle Kronikles 3
Label: Poe Boy/Atlantic
Hosted by DJ Kronik & Strong Arm
On the verge of his sophomore album, Flo Rida pushes forward continuing his career as one of Poe Boy’s phenomenal performers and talented artists. His debut ‘Mail on Sunday’ reached Gold status and continues to sell worldwide. He has literally taken ‘Low’ to the highest level worldwide, dominating late 2007 all the way into the 08. Flo is an unstoppable force; he has been nominated for numerous amounts of awards including two Grammys this year for ‘Low’ alone. Fans across the world have indulged in his material since his breakthrough, now they anticipate the release of his next attempt at reaching international status a second time around. As ‘R.O.O.T.S,’ the acronym for ‘The Route of Overcoming the Struggle,’ is practically complete, but for now what best then to hit the fans with freestyle sessions as a teaser to the upcoming album? Flo’s lyricism has always provided a storyline alongside a grand delivery with each track. His flow and his delivery have always impacted that powerful punch that adds clarity and poise to the track.
As always DJ Kronik does it again. His third installment of his infamous ‘Freestyle Kronikles’ puts together an interesting combination of Flo’s lyrics atop some powerful hitting industry beats that have already received critical acclaim from plenty of fans. Alongside the freestyle tracks, Kronik didn’t hesitate to add some original tracks as well, it’s not surprising to hear his Poe Boy brethren appear on the track listing. Every once in a while it is a curiosity to see what another artist sounds like on certain beats. And on that note, Flo drops some serious lyrical narration onto a lot of recent singles already banging in the streets including Plies’ ‘Who Hotter than Me?’ to T.I.’s ‘Live Your Life.’ And a little more closer to home, he added his own verse to Khaled’s and Kanye’s famous ‘Go Hard’ single. At the same time, he doesn’t dither from omitting an interesting verse to the already famous ‘Swagga Like Us.’
With his original tracks, he gives the fans a sneak preview of what’s to come on his anticipated sophomore album. Tracks that standout include: ‘Love’ featuring his labelmate, Brisco, ‘Guarantee’ featuring the vocal talents of Akon in an eclectic club banger. Certain remixes were also omitted into the track listing, tracks included were ‘Bitch I’m Me (Remix),’ and ‘In the Ayer (Remix).’ Both of those tracks featured Brisco, Rick Ross, and Poe Boy newcomer Billy Blue. Brisco’s second hit single ‘Just Know Dat’ now has an official Flo verse and an extended Wayne verse, so that’s definitely a plus. With every track portraying different appeal and style, one track entitled simply ‘On and On’ stood out from the rest and narrated a storyline describing the struggle that Flo seems to emulate with outstanding imagery. The sample that they incorporated into the beat personifies the song quite well. This track definitely deserves a gander. Certain tracks he’s chosen to grace on also demonstrates his differential versatility.
On the real, if you haven’t gotten around to picking up this mixtape or I didn’t hand it to you and you consider yourself a serious Flo Rida fan, you need to pick this up. Talk about previews of unreleased tracks from the most anticipated studio LP to date. Try bumping it in your trunk and see what I mean.
Notable Tracks include: ‘One Too Many Drinks,’ ‘Where They Do Dat At?’ ‘Ride,’ Hot Long Time,’ ‘This is the Life (Remix),’ and the 4 Minutes (Remix).
