Artist: Freeway
Album: Free At Last
Label: Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam
The Roc Boys are back with back to back albums from Kanye West (Graduation) and Jay-Z (American Gangster) and now it’s time for ‘Free At Last.’ Even though his first single which features Jay-Z, “Roc-A-Fella Billioniares” (produced by Dame Grease), never got a video and get the push it should have, Freeway has put together the best slept on album for 2007. Executive produced by 50 Cent and Jay-Z, Freeway seemed to have the best of both worlds and makes listeners remember of the good old Dynasty days before the break up on “Still Got Love,” “I Cry,” and the heartfelt “This Can’t Be Real.” On a song called “It’s Over” Freeway mentions that he reached out to producer Just Blaze and never got a call back, along with Kanye being too busy, but I guess everything happens for a reason clearly shown on “Lights Get Low” ft. Rick Ross produced by Cool & Dre. Freeway displays his best work on “When I Cry” and “Walk Wit Me” ft. Busta Rhymes and Roc-A-Fella latest addition Jadakiss. The album does take a minor turn for the worst on “Spit That Shit” and “Take It To The Top” ft. 50 Cent which I think would have done better on a 50 Cent album. Some other honorable mentions are “Baby Don’t Do It” ft. Scarface and “Free At Last.”
