Artist: Keyshia Cole
Album: Calling All Hearts
Label: Geffen Records
“Calling All Hearts” is R&B singer Keyshia Cole’s fourth CD, and the album opens with the Nicki Minaj collaboration “I Ain’t Thru”, an upbeat hater brush-off. The midtempo guitar-peppered “Long Way Down” follows. Other songs keeping the tempo up are the Faith Evans duet “If I Fall In Love Again”, the smooth piano-sprinkled “Take Me Away”, and the dark synth-driven “Last Train” with Timbaland.
“Tired Of Doing Me” is an absolutely beautiful ballad and a duet with Tank, with Tank’s and Cole’s vocals perfectly complimenting each other. “So Impossible” is a gorgeous piano/string swathed ballad, while Cole goes from soft to belting on the acoustic “Sometimes”. “What You Do To Me” is a retro Soul ballad. “Thank You” finds her thanking and praising God and features her adopted mother Dr Yvonne Cole, and closing is the soaring ballad “Better Me”. From the lyrics, one can discern that Cole is at a happy place in her life (She became a mother this year and also got engaged). Most of the anger and pain from her first album (“Changed My Mind”, “Should Have Cheated”) is gone and some will miss that, but still, this is touching and beautiful.
