Artist: Lil Wayne
Album: Rebirth
Label: Cash Money/Universal
After release date push back after push back the “Rebirth” is finally in stores. I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this album but with a song such as “American Star” setting things off I think Wayne should of opened up the album with a record that had more of an “Intro” feel to it. “Prom Queen” which I really liked the video for when it came out a few months ago but never really paid too much attention to the record has got my attention until now is actual growing on me every time I listen to it. Rebirth is at it’s best with songs like “Runnin” ft Shanell, “Drop The World” ft Eminem and my personal favorite “On Fire” produced by Cool & Dre. But at it’s lowest with songs such as “Get A Life” and “The Price Is Wrong” where your left wondering if this is the same artist that swept the Grammy‘s in 2009. I understand that Weezy wanted to try something different and go in a different direction with this album. I was actually routing for him pushing the envelope and not letting the critic’s keep rap artist boxed in to what they can and can’t do but “Good Music” is “Good Music” no matter the genre of music and this album overall lacks “Good Music“. More key tracks to check out are “Knockout” ft Nicki Minaj produced by Justice L.E.A.G.U.E. and “One Way Trip” ft Kevin Rudolf.
