Artist: Yung Neen

Mixtape: From Da Block To Da Billboard Vol.3

Hosted: DJ HustleMan

I don’t know too many up and coming artist that would actually turn down a Record Deal from Capitol Records,  and start their own Record label not to mention putting together his own group DKG but then I guess that’s one of the things that separates Yung Neen from other new artists. Making a name for himself in New York being a part of  his former rap group G.R.I.T.S. (Greatest Rapper In The Streets), which had artist such as Stack Bundles(R.I.P.), Skyzoo, and Domination to name a few Yung Neen always managed to stand out. Going on to catch the ear of DJ Absolute of Hot 97(New York #1 Radio Station), who quickly signed the young talent to a management deal. From there on Yung Neen started killing the mixtape scene and taking advantage of being on every mixtape DJ Absolute put out.

Taking control of his own destiny Neen moved to VA and started his own label DKG and put out his first installment of From Da Block To Da Billboard Vol.1 and followed up with Vol.2 which became a bigger success then the first. Anf I know you hear artists use the term  “The Third Time, The Charm“, but in Yung Neen’s case with his third edition,  From Da Block To Da Billboard Vol.3, that term speaks louder then words. As he steadily continued his grind trying to bring attention to Williamsburg, VA  and show the music world there is more to VA then the Clipse, he finally did something about it and made a home town anthem “This Is VA“.

Leading off his latest mixtape with tracks like “Doing It” ft. Onea, Neen speaks on the up’s and down’s of trying to make it out the hood without people trying to pull you back and not see you make it. On every album, either if its a Street album, Major album or mixtape I feel like the “Intro” means everything because it sets up the tempo for everything else and on this mixtape “IntroYung Neen brings everything to the table for this CD to win and win big!  My only problem with Vol.3 is some of the selected production but overall I would say its a “Hood” must have.
