24: First off, thanks for taking time
out and chop it up with me and the 24HourHipHop.Com readers and I’m sure
everyone wants to know what happened with your Cash Money situation that made
you asked to be released?

Curren$y:  I’m trying to get some music out and the way
things were going it didn’t seem like that was going to happen anymore, I got
some shit I’m trying to do man. I realize were I’m at with my talent and the
type of music I want to do and the impact I could have on my city and for that
to happen I have to get my music out there.

24: Personally I think you are one of
the most under rated artist out right now but I’m sure after everyone hears
“Independence Day” a few listeners will surely change their minds so
tell me more about the mixtape and what other projects you have been working
on?

Curren$y: Thank you bra, I really mean
that because I watch the site and I know the content and the type of music yall
give shine to on 24HourHipHop.Com so that mean I must be doing something right
for you to feel like that and even do this interview. I will never say that I’m
under rated or carry myself like that, its something I want I feel better about
if the people think so. As far as “Independence Day” goes that’s the closest thing
I got out now to let the people know what I’m doing and trying to do with my
music. We going hard with that and everyone have been giving me a lot of love.
I also got another mixtape “Life At 30,000 Feet” while working on the follow up
“Higher Than 30,000 Feet” so look out for that.

24: For the readers out there not
familiar with “Fly Society” bring them up to date and let them know
what it’s all about as well as the members?

Curren$y: That’s a whole movement right
there it’s a label I started and divided the company into two parts “Fly
Society” and “Fly Society West”. Fly Society West is where I partnered up with
my homeboy Terry Kennedy (Captain of Pharell Williams Ice Cream Skate Team), we
got the clothing line jumping off as well as the music. If you saw B.E.T. Rip
The Run Way during Pharell set on stage a couple people were rocking it. I’m
also setting up a Skate Team out here in New Orleans, as I’m getting more
recognition for what I stand for people letting me know they feel me and
becoming a part of it. It’s not all one look or thing we do down here in the
New Orleans they got people that’s into everything.

24: I see you and TK in the “Fly
Society” gear all the time so you got to tell me my readers where they can
go pick up the line?

Curren$y: Right now we got it online (www.flysociety.bigcartel.com)
and anyone can order it if you cant get to the NO and pick it up from Traffic
Boutique on Charter Street.

24: Like you were stating before how in
New Orleans its not just one thing or one style that every has or is doing and
you express that with your music so I want ed to know who are some of your
musical influences that inspire you?

Curren$y: Man as far as New Orleans go
Rest In Peace to Soulja Slim, Mr. Marcelo (former of No Limit), C-Murder, Fiend
but outside of that Slick Rick, Snoop Dogg of course I listen to Jay-Z, B.I.G.,
2Pac. Also A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul a lot of shit bra, E-40, Ghetto
Mafia, Camp Lo because I feel like then have been slept on.

24: Describe your style and sound
because I feel like a lot of artist swagger jack from you but because you’re
not on a large scale many people don’t know?

Curren$y: I think so to bra, you see
that Regan Era video we did on Youtube and it keep killing me because that has
to be like the most aggravating thing in the world. I’m not sure if you felt
something like that or been a situation like this to do something so original
and know what type of impact it could have and get it to where its suppose to
be bra! That’s how shit happens, your able to get swagger jacked when you’re
not out there!

24: From your experience in the music
industry so far what would you say to an up and coming artist trying to get a
buzz and land a record deal?

Curren$y: While you are not signed do
as much as you can for your mother fucking self, I’m actually hustling
backwards I done been through deal after deal after deal to finally realize
man, get on your grizzly on your own! Then you wont ever have to look at no one
like is this person holding me up, etc. So the best thing is to do is mixtape
that shit, grind it out and understand your not going to make a shit load of
money but it take money to make money so you put money into that. Look at it as
a blessing if you’re not signed yet to grind it out so when the time come you
get the real check you want!

24: What should the readers be looking
out from Curren$y in 2008?

Curren$y: Look for us on the runway,
whether it’s taking off or landing with that Jet to Fly Society Clothing
hitting the Runways and the quality Music. TK just signed his Million Dollar
deal with Ice Cream, so we gone be everywhere man and 24HourHipHop will be the
first to know and get the music.

24: Years from now when you decide to
put up the Mic what do you want to fans to stay that Curren$y brought to the
game?

Curren$y: That I brought realness; I’m
trying to bring it back to what it was. You can tell just by looking at the
beats I choose to rap over, that’s what made me fall in love with rap. These
groups and artist beats I rap over is who influenced me because I don’t rap
over new beats and shit I aint really tripping off that I go back to what was
hot to me. I want people to say I brought that back when I’m done because its
people that listen to me that don’t even realize where that came from and think
its new because they wasn’t listening to Tribe Called Quest, Souls Of Mystery
or De La Soul.

24: What’s the best way for people to
hear more of your music and stay updated with you?

Curren$y: As far as the clothing www.flysociety.bigcartel.com,
for the music they can log on to myspace and go to
www.myspace.com/flysociety2007, www.myspace.com/flyspitta, and check out TK at www.myspace.com/terrykennedy and
www.sk8site.com.
