24: What made you want to become a DJ?

DJ Smallz:My head was really into school. I got a scholarship to college and everything. I was DJin’ as a hobby ever since middle school and I was ready to get my club game poppin in high school. The first southern smoke CD was really a demo for me to get into clubs. It was the hottest southern music put together, mixed by me. People passed the CD around in high school and clubs, word of mouth spread and one thing led to another. That’s how the southern smoke movement really began.

24: How did you famous “Southern Smoke” mixtape series come about?

DJ Smallz:Like I said earlier, it all began as a demo CD to get me into the local club circuit.  Volume one wasn’t hosted by any one, but the first major host though was on volume 6 with Uncle Luke of the 2 Live Crew.  Uncle Luke is a legend and the reason why albums today carry the parental advisory sticker – he fought for his lyrics!  He never hosted a mixtape before and I got him out to do it and he never did another one.  I’ve got a lot of history with my hosts.  T.I. and C-Murder hosted a Southern Smoke behind bars.  When Pimp C of UGK got
out of jail, I was the only CD he hosted.  Master P never hosted anyone’s either except for Southern Smoke as well.

24: When you first started out did you think you would be where you are today?

DJ Smallz: Defintiley not, i thank God for all his blessings He’s brought upon me thus far.

24: Tell about some of your latest projects and your compilation album “Southern Smoke”?

DJ Smallz:The South will never be the same once this album drops! It’s the official soundtrack to the hottest brand in the south – Southern Smoke!  As far as DJ albums go, I’m raising the bar with this Southern Smoke album release.  I have album concepts and marketing strategies that have never ever been done with an album of this caliber.  I am planning to release the official single sometime very shortly…. Stay tuned!

24: You are also a producer as well so tell me who have you been working with lately as far as your production goes?

DJ Smallz:Since the “Gunshine State” record came out, I sold 2 beats to The Game’s upcoming “Black Wallstreet” compilation as well as shopping my beats to Grand Hustle, DTP, CTE, Cash Money and
Slip-N-Slide.

24: You have helped break a lot of up coming artist so what advice would you give to new artist trying to get into the game?

DJ Smallz: Grind harder then the next man, and be creative as possible.  The record industry has seen it all.

24: It seems as though demos are a thing of the past and you have to know break your own record to get a deal so how should an artist go about doing that?

DJ Smallz: Holla at me! I’ve established “Fear Factor Music Group” directed to strictly help with the record breaking process for artists and record labels.  If you need your music broken the correct way or you need a campaign created, hit up FearFactorMusic.com.
