24: Dorrough— what an original name, how did you come up with it?
Dorrough: Dorrough is actually my last name. My basketball coaches growing up would always call me by my last name so it just stuck with me.
24: Your from Dallas, Texas— born and raised, tell us what it was like growing up there?
Dorrough: Dallas is a great city to grow up in. I was raised in both Dallas and Lancaster (which is right outside of Dallas). With me it was all about music and playing ball.
24: Your debut album was titled “Dorrough Music”, you recently released your second album “Get Big” was there anything different that you did to prepare for this album versus your first one?
Dorrough: With my sophomore album I had more time to prepare and really commit fully to each and every song. With my first album, I don’t want to say it was rushed, but everything was happening so fast with “Ice Cream Paint Job” moving the way it did. With ‘Get Big’ I found time to express my creativity a little more.
24: The single “Get Big” off the new album talks about guys that “put on” but don’t really have it like that. What was your inspiration for this song?
Dorrough: Get Big is just perfect for the way the world is right now. The economy is bad and instead of sitting around complaining about what you don’t have or what you wish you could have, you need to Get Big. Go out and get it, nobody will help you but you.
24: In the song “get big” I see you made some references to sports. Now lets talk basketball— you were the captain of your basketball team in high school and you also went on to college. How did rapping come in to play?
Dorrough: I’ve been rapping for awhile. I got serious about it in high school. I used to sell my mixtapes and we used to run out to my music at my high school basketball games.
24: Do you think the game has changed a lot since you first came in?
Dorrough: Since I first came in? No, not really but I haven’t been in the game long. I still feel like I’m an infant in the rap game. I haven’t made the mark I will make in this industry yet. I’m gaining a fan base and really developing and showing everyone that I’m here to stay.
24: Who would you like to work with that you haven’t worked with yet?
Dorrough: I’d like to work with a lot of artists who are coming up with me right now in the industry. Wale, J Cole, Roscoe, Waka, and so many more to name. This next generation of music is on us.
24: What do you have planned for the rest of the year as far as your career goes?
Dorrough: Before the year is out I plan on dropping at least 2 more videos. My main goal is to stay visual and in your face. Next year I plan on getting out some quality mixtapes with some big name DJs. Be on the lookout for that.
24: How would fans go about contacting you, I know you have a twitter, but do you have any other social sites they could go to?
Dorrough: I’m on every social network site. Just type in your favorite site /dorroughmusic and I’m there. We also have a new blog site for my indie label NGenius, its called TheSwush.com. Get on there and check out all my music & videos.
24: Thank you so much Dorrough, is there anything you would like to say to your fans before you go?
Dorrough: Stay tuned into Dorrough Music, keep supporting and I’m going to keep puttin out the hits. And thank you to 24 Hr Hip Hop.
