24: It has been a while since 24hourhiphop.com sat down with you. How does it feel to be an International Superstar?
Flo Rida: It feels great. Having the first album do well and with all the fans support, I’ve been able to travel internationally from Japan to Greece to Denmark to everywhere. I’m working on my second album and it’s definitely motivation and inspiration. I’m also the people’s choice since I won the People’s Choice Award. I’m also nominated for two Grammy’s. I’ve been nominated for almost every award you could think of.
24: With “Low,” did you expect the record to be as big as it was and take you where it took you?
Flo Rida: Everything I’ve done I put my all into it. But me just being a person who loves others and has respect for others and you don’t have the means to do everything but just have a humble spirit, it just came across in my music. It was a big record but at the same time the production and the record made you move instantaneously. I never thought it would have me in every category when it comes to music.
24: With all the traveling that you’ve done, which is your favorite place to visit?
Flo Rida: Well I just don’t have one favorite place. I have places that stand out for me for example like going to Sweden, going to the UK and going to places like Greece because those were just places I read about, but to have fans that knew my lyrics is what stood out.
24: How did feel to go to Africa and be apart of the first ever MTV Africa Music Awards?
Flo Rida: I mean, just celebrating the fact that we just had nominated a black president was big. I went to Africa with my Obama button up shirt and I was out there with The Game and Kelly Rowland, so it felt good to be in the motherland.
24: How do you feel being nominated 2 Grammy Awards?
Flo Rida: It feels great. It makes me feel that my work hasn’t been going in vein. I put maximum effort whether it’s in my performances or being in the studio, so I definitely got to thank the fans for the support.
24: What can fans expect from the new album R.O.O.T.S.?
Flo Rida: They can expect serious matters on this album as well as up-tempo, party joints because I can’t forget where I come from but at the same time I can’t forget where I come from by letting people know my struggle, that’s what R.O.O.T.S. represents. It means Route Of Overcoming The Struggle.
24: What struggles are you talking about?
Flo Rida: You know, just growing up in the hood, just being around and just growing up seeing people selling drugs and going to jail and being in the mist of that and how I came up out of that. Listening to my mom and being obedient. She told me never to do this and never to do that. I actually have a record that talks about that on the album. That and the different things I went through like when I caused the bomb threat at the Beverly Center in California. That was on my journey to be successful. No pain no gain.
24: What Producers are you working with on this album?
Flo Rida: I’m working with J Rock, Detail, DJ Monte, Dr. Luke and Will.i.Am.
24: What features can the people look forward to?
Flo Rida: You can look forward to Chris Brown, Nelly Furtado, Brisco, Billy Blue, Pleasure P, and Kisha who is on the first single “Right Round” and a few other surprises.
24: How do you feel you’ve grown from the first album to now?
Flo Rida: It’s like growing up in the hood. You have no choice. Me traveling all over the world and nominated for all these awards, it definitely molded me into an artist that’s aware of great music and what it can do for you, so it help me grow in that sense of an artist.
24: What other projects are you working on? I know you have a clothing line coming out.
Flo Rida: I’m working on my clothing line Parlay Adore. It’s an upscale clothing line. I’m working on my charities and my album.
24: Can we look forward to seeing Flo Rida in Hollywood on the big screen?
Flo Rida: Most definitely. I’ve gotten a few offers so you can definitely see me on the big screen real soon.
24: What is the release date for the album?
Flo Rida: The current release date is March 31st.
24: What are the 2 singles off your album?
Flo Rida: We have “Right Round” featuring Kisha which is an international record and “Actshone” featuring Pleasure P is a more urban record.
24: Anything else you want to let the people know?
