Rozay J. sat down with the Jamaican music artist Kris Kelli for an exclusive interview in Miami. Kris Kelli goes in depth on her start in the music industry and her drive to continue on top. Kris Kelli is a beautiful being with outstanding musical talent. The Jamaican artist music is versatile and will capture a variety of fans.
As the newest artist on music industry veteran Russell “Block” Spencer’s Blok Entertainment label, Kris Kelli has taken the music scene by storm with her magical blend of edgy, Hip-Hop, pop and Caribbean influences for a truly unique sound you won’t hear from anyone else. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Kris Kelli’s music career began at age 17 when she was discovered in a hometown karaoke bar.
After releasing a series of hit songs, including collaborations with reggae superstars Beenie Man and Vybz Kartel in her native Jamaica, the Caribbean songstress was ready for more. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia and caught the attention of Block and his team. They began a yearlong process of developing new music and a new sound that would match Kris Kelli’s breathtaking talent. With a strong fan base growing in Jamaica and overseas, the buxom beauty won the hearts of new fans in the U.S. with the 2012 release of her hit single “Me & You,” featuring label mate Gorilla Zoe.
The record, which pays homage to Method Man and Mary J. Blige using a sample of the Hip-Hop classic “All I Need,” quickly became one of the most requested tunes on Atlanta’s V-103.3 FM and introduced her powerhouse vocals to the masses. Later that year, the budding star put out her first EP titled “Sell Off” hosted by DJ Kash (V-103 Atlanta), making her mark in the industry as one to watch. Her hit singles “HomeRun” and “Action” showcased her musical range and talents, garnering even more fans along the way.
Never one to rush the creative process, Kris Kelli took time to grow as an artist and showed a deeper, more versatile perspective of her life in her next project titled “Warrior.” She released the mixtape in March 2013 to rave reviews after the single “Warrior” became a liberating anthem among her “Team Warrior” fan base and hit the radio soon after.
“Team Warrior is a movement and we’re all in this together. A Warrior is someone who goes hard everyday despite trials and tribulations. This means a lot to me and the mixtape has received a crazy response from my fans. They promote it every day,” says Kris Kelli. Her remix of Young Scooter’s “Columbia” has created quite the buzz, becoming a fan favorite almost overnight.
The Caribbean beauty plans to release music videos for two hot singles and her personal favorites “Like A Drum” and “I Got Your Man,” and is slated to embark on a multi-city tour this summer. With an unstoppable drive to succeed, undeniable talent, striking Island charm and a daring look, this Kingston songstress is well on her way to international superstardom.
