In March, Beyoncé announced she had severed ties with her manager, her father Mathew Knowles, in a statement that suggested she was ready to take charge of her own career. However, according to TMZ, the split was anything but amicable. Court papers have revealed that Live Nation Entertainment has accused Mathew Knowles of pilfering money from a Beyoncé tour — likely her 2009-10 I Am… Tour — for his own pocket. Live Nation says that Mathew “had stolen money from Beyoncé on her most recent tour or otherwise taken funds that [he] was not entitled to,” a claim backed by a law firm that conducted an audit.

Mathew, who started managing B before the Destiny’s Child days, is of course denying the accusations, and in fact, that’s why we’re even learning about this mess now — he has asked a judge to take depositions from Live Nation employees in an attempt to clear his name. Knowles says Beyoncé was misled by a former Live Nation exec who wanted to sign her and push him out of the picture.

Beyoncé has been nothing but supportive of her dad in public throughout her career (remember her Dangerously in Love promo single “Daddy”?), and when she said she was parting ways with Mathew as a manager but not a father, she gushed, “He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly. I am grateful for everything he has taught me.” Mathew Knowles had added, “Business is business and family is family.”
