After the tragic
suicide of Def Jam CEO Shakir Stewart, there has been a lot of
questions as to who will take over the position. Shakir’s death
obviously took everyone by left field and the Def Jam brass are said to
be having a tough time picking the next person to lead their company.
Do remember Shakir took over the position from Jay-Z, but it looks very
unlikely at this point that another rapper will be holding the
position. Instead two big CEO’s in their own right are the two names that keep popping up.
Irv
Gotti is at the top of the list as the Murder Inc CEO has had long
relations with Def Jam and was even considered one of the front runners
to replace Jay before it was announced Shakir would do it. Gotti has
not made any statement indicating he might take the job however he has
been sighted coming in and out of the office a lot lately, which could
mean one of a million things.
Chaku
Zulu is the other man that might take the reigns. As the Co-CEO of
Disturbing Tha Peace Records he too has had a long and successful
relationship with Def Jam. Him and his partner Ludacris have made Def
Jam a lot of money through their ventures so he may be the most likely
one to get the job. Also on the long term of things DTP has had much
more sustained success than Murder Inc. Of course no formal
announcements have been made and this is just pure speculation as of
right now! Also please remember to say a prayer for the friends and
family of Shakir Stewart.
