Last month, Art-N-Hustle
hosted the urban art exhibit titled “From
The Block To The Brush”, an event by which many are regarding as one
of the best urban-contemporary
art exhibits
the city of West Palm
Beach, FL has seen in years. The show included a variety of exhibitions including sculptures,
photography, paintings and even live performances. The variety of media in the
show reflects Art-N-Hustle’s fascination with the evolution of urban culture.
Established in 2009,
Art-N-Hustle was founded by Corey “Hustle” Knight and Marcus
“Ruckus” Williams. The goal of the company was to move forward with
the progress of urban culture. Founder Corey Knight made the statement
“We want to show the world that urban is much more than what you see on BET,
we as a people are much deeper then gold teeth and big rims. Not that I am
against these things, but it just bothers me when people think that is all we
are”.
The Opening
Night Gala was attended by more than 400 people; drawing an impressive contingent
of important local and major art dealers, collectors and art lovers of all ages
from around South Florida. One significant thing I noticed about the exhibit
was the fact that the shows organizers were able to convince a small collective
of dealers to abandon their usual successful downtown gallery shows to exhibit
their work in a totally unorthodox venue.
The credit for
this success can be shared equally with the hard work of the show organizers’
well-oiled team and their loyal exhibitors.
President Marcus
Williams said “We want to show the urban culture that there is more
to the world then just there hood, there block, there state. There is a
whole other world out there. With the many events that we have
planned along with films and theatrical shows, we will progress the urban
culture. In hopes that someone becomes inspired to follow their dreams the
way we have”.
Art-N-Hustle continues
to build momentum, and with the success of “From The Block
To The Brush”, the exhibit has evolved from
a simple idea from two men into the major event it is today.
What’s next for Art-N-Hustle?
Four more art exhibits and concerts over the next few months. They are also dropping
an Art-N-Hustle musical project with new artists that bring meaning to their
work as well as developing a fashion show and a documentary on urban art and
culture. Is there anything Corey Knight and Art-N-Hustle don’t do?
