Throughout their time in the music industry the Black Eyed Peas have left a mark that has sometimes been questionable but always unique. Since their breakout album ‘Elephunk ‘in 2003, the band has gone on to sell an estimated 27 million albums and singles worldwide. Consisting of Will.i.am, Apl.de.ap, Taboo, and Fergie, the Black Eyed Peas’s pop and dance style of hip hop has been a trademark that has come hand in hand with much success.
Citing the Red Hot Chili Peppers as an early influence, Will.i.am began his musical career in Los Angeles and would eventually cross paths and form a bond with Apl.de.ap. The two would go on to form the Atbann Klann, which later turned into The Black Eyed Peas. Taboo and Fergie joined the party later on and the foundation was set. Over the years such singles as “Where is the Love?”, “Let’s Get Retarded”, and “Don’t Funk with my heart” captivated audiences and gave the Peas a true standing in the game, but over the past few years the buzz and hype had been replaced by rumors of a breakup and lulls of inactivity.
Good new is just around the corner, however, as the band will be releasing their next album ‘The END’ (The “Energy Never Dies”) this coming June 9th. The first single from the album, Boom Boom Pow, has already became a smash success, being the first #1 single for the band according to the Billboard charts. It’s safe to say that the Black Eyed Peas are going to have a big 2009 and that statement alone is what many fans have been dying to hear.
Wanting to get a better taste of their newest single, 24 Hour Hip Hop took a look at some choice forums on the net to get everyone’s thoughts on ‘Boom Boom Pow’. While not an immediate attraction like other singles, the song has gone to grow on several people and will likely serve as the starting point to a memorable 2009 for the Black Eyed Peas…

“I’m definitely speechless. I’m completely hooked on it. The time you might not like it but the second time you will. You play it the third time and you are hooked for a while. Trust me if you hear it you’ll be copying my thoughts.”
(Benjamin Oram @ Amazon.com)…
“For me there are some songs that are just ok and the more you hear it the song seems to grow on you. Then there are songs that as soon as you hear you love. This is the latter… as soon as I heard it was a hit for me and had to download to put it on my mp3 list.”

“It’s alright, not as good as their previous stuff, but not bad, It will grow on me!”

“I don’t know what to think of the Peas. Sometimes they release some real nice songs but other times they are in la la land with their stuff. They are in their own world but that’s what works for them. They’ll be alright.”
(O_Lovely @ MediaTakeOut.com)…
“This song is terrible. But I know that there are people who are going to like it. It’s one of those songs that gets on my nerves but I still know all the words to.”

“What’s Fergie still doing messing around with them? I don’t get what happened to the Black Eyed Peas. They are starting to sound like wannabes.”

“What a clubbin’ beat. I love it. But I don’t like the lyrics. I can see what people are saying when they asked what happened to the group. “Pump It” was definitely more tasteful. Still they got fresh, catchy beats. It would be nice if they didn’t curse in every line and sing about stupid stuff.”

“It has been nearly 5 years since the Black Eyed Peas have made music together. Well, after the successful so lo efforts of Fergie, and her album The Duchess, many have wondered if the Peas will ever make beats together. Well, that is the case with a 4 year absence from the media spotlight, but their latest single isn’t really a big bang as it could’ve been. Boom Boom Pow, the latest single from The Black Eyed Peas brings in a more techno rhythm to the funky sounds. While the song had a nice beat, it just sadly wasn’t as driven as their songs from a few earlier like Don’t Phunk With My Heart or My Humps showed for fans. While I do hope The Black Eyed Peas can be welcomed back with open arms, and prove they have the beats again, I hope that their upcoming album can really have better songs than this one was.”

“well… the beat is nice.. but they had better moments when it comes to lyrics… “

“I’m lovin this – the sound takes me back. Not surprized it’s the BEP’z.”
(Chaz X OOC @ CHCMedia.com Forums)…
“I must admit, I’m not blown away by it, but I’ve liked all of BEP’s past material (well after they got commercial – yes, bandwagon jumper alert), so I fully expect this to grow on me. It’s no Don’t Phunk With My Heart though.”
(Zachary Reynolds @ Imeem.com)…
“ I don’t know what to think. It’ll sink in later.”

“Woot Wooot. This is, at least so far, the most anticipated album of ’09. Btw, when is the single released to radios, does anyone have a slightest clue?”
(M Camps @ Amazon.com)…
“This sounds like something Fergie would make without the blackeyed peas. If you like Fergie you will like this song.”
(Helter Skelter20@ CHC Media.com Forums)…
“Not feeling it amazingly yet, 6 or 7 out of 10 for me at the moment. A lot of people seem to be unimpressed. The more I hear it the more I like it but I don’t really see how it’s so epic yet… but it took a while with Love Lockdown too and I sorta compare this to that.”
