The 2nd Annual TJsDJs Tastemakers Conference
& Ozone Awards went down this past weekend August 10 to August 13. The
entire weekend was filled with music panels, events, listening parties and
more, capping off the weekend with the Ozone Awards.
The Weekend kicked off with The TJsDJs Tastemakers
Conference where all the big dogs of the music industry were in attendance. The
Conference consisted of various music related panels including the Producer
Panel (Mannie Fresh, Polow Da Don, Brian Michael Cox, Cool N Dre & more),
The DJ Panel (DJ Khaled, Tony Neal, DJ Smallz, Sean Mac & more) the Artist
Panel (Slim Thug, Foxx, Lil Scrappy, Diamond & Princess of Crime Mob,
Killer Mike, Fabo, Mistah Fab, Keak Da Sneak, Pitbull, Trey Songz & more).
Atlantic Records had a Listening Session which featured some
of the labels newest talent including Big Kuntry, Flo Rida, B.G., Trey Songz,
B.O.B. & Twista. All of these artists played new music for the audience
that was in attendance. The listening session turned into a performance session
as many of the artist decided to grab the mic and display their skills. The
most energetic performance came from Flo Rida who jumped on the table and got
everyone hyped up. B.G. also had a good performance. For those that thought
B.G. was gone, think again, he’s coming back with some fire.
Sunday night it went down at Plies’ Album Release Party at
Masion on South Beach. The night was filled with good
vibes and bad vibes. Once DJ Khaled entered the building, he immediately hit
the turntables and the party was on. All the major artists’ were in the
building including Lil Scrappy, Diamond & Princess of Crime Mob, Plies,
Chopper, Tony Neal, Papoose, Triple C, Rick Ross, Freeway, Jim Jones and others. Rick Ross hit the stage as soon as he hit the
building tearing into his hits “Hustlin,” “White House,” “I’m So Hood,” “Cry,”
and his new single “Trilla.” The entire club was vibing with Ross as he ran
through the hits. Freeway then took the mic to perform 2 songs before being
interrupted by Jim Jones. A little tension stared but was quickly cooled down. On
a bad note, Miami
rapper Granddaddy Souf was beaten down and tossed out of the club. At this time
we are unsure of what exactly happened. Overall, the entire club enjoyed the
night.
On Monday, OZONE Magazine and TJ’s DJ’s crowned their
“kings of the south” at the James
L. Knight Center
in Miami, FL.
Hosted by comedian Lil’ Duval, the evening was filled with spectacular
performances and appearances from today’s hottest artists.
Top winners of the night were T-Pain with four
awards, Lil’ Wayne brought home three awards and Miami native, DJ Khaled walked away
with two awards. It was a great blend of southern comfort as all of the
recording artists showed their love for the south. Young Jeezy and
USDA along with Lloyd represented for Atlanta
while Lil’ Wayne and Baby took over the stage by fully
representing New Orleans.
Miami’s first
ladies – Trina, Jackie O and K. Foxx, took the stage along
with Rick Ross and Trick Daddy.
The awards were a melting pot of hip-hop from coast to
coast. Celebrities from other coasts and cities came through to support
and accept their awards. Rich Boy came through for Alabama, Twista from Chicago,
Sirius Jones from New Jersey,
Papoose and Dipset from New
York and Mistah FAB & Keak da Sneak from
the Bay Area either presented or performed during the evening. Also, in true
OZONE fashion of highlighting up and coming talent, Lil’ Boosie, Foxx,
Webbie, Flo Rida, DG Yola, Brisco, Hurricane Chris, Soulja Boy, and Baby Boy came to perform
and tore down the stage.
“The TJ’s DJ’s and Second Annual OZONE Awards
successfully brought together some of the biggest and future stars of hip hop
for one weekend to celebrate the evolution of Southern Hip Hop to the
masses,” says TJ Chapman and Julia Beverly. “We thank
everyone from the artists and producers to the DJs for their role in the
success of the movement. We look forward to making next year’s festivities even
bigger.”
