From Tupac‘s famous “Thug Life” tattoo on his stomach to Mike Tyson famous tattoo on his face more then ever Hip-Hop artists alike are not only expressing themselves with music but through ink. Artist such as Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, 50 Cent, Flo Rida, Birdman, Oschino(Formely of State Property), Plies, Pharell, The Game, Young Jeezy, Jim Jones, B.G., Tyga, Three6Mafia, Jacki-O, Willy Northpole, Young Buck, Cashis(West Coast artist on Shady Records) to even Kanye West(placing his early beat placements on his arm) have joined in. There are only a hand full of artist that don’t have any tattoos such as Jay-Z, Drake and T.I. to name a few that comes to mind. I recently interviewed Saucey as she began to tell me her story behind his tattoos………
24: What was the first tattoo you got and how old were you at the time?
Saucey: I was 17 years old when I got my first tattoo done and I still go to the same tattoo artist today. The plan was to get three Chinese symbols going down my spine faith, hope, and love. Since I was young my mother convinced me to only get one symbol so I chose to put love. It’s on my lower back. I never did get the other two but hey there’s still time(smiling).
24: After getting your first tattoo I know a lot of people say that’s where it start’s but not where it ends, so I wanted to know was it like that for you as well? Once you got your first tattoo done you kept going back?
Saucey: Well, it definitely hurt but that didn’t stop me. Eventually I went back for #2, #3 etc. I then started on my back piece when I was about 19-20, and it was a done deal from there. I fell in love with tattoos(smiling).
24: How many tattoos do you have in total?
Saucey: Well, this one is always a tough one to answer. Some of the larger pieces I have were done in sittings so I cant really count. Let’s just go with a rough estimate and say 15 and counting.
24: I know people get tattoos to express themselves in different ways from pain to joy so explain the reason behind a few of your tattoos?
Saucey: Some of my work has meaning and some just doesn’t. One of my favorite has to be my name tag. It’s a “HELLO MY NAME IS…. SAUCEY“. I hand wrote the Saucey and my guy was able to transfer it. It’s something different and simply explains who I am. I also have one large piece on my left arm. I call her my lady. She is a replica of a painting from the artist Sylvia Ji. My tattoo artist suggested that I checked out her work and I was amazed. She paints all sorts of different women ranging from day of the dead to just plain women. I chose a day of the dead piece that symbolizes love and lust, beauty and decay. My back piece was all drawn out by my tattoo artist. I let him run wild and he created a master piece. Its all different flowers and colors. It represents the everything. Not one flower is the same.
24: What’s the reaction you get from the average person that meets you for the first time and they see your tattoos?
Saucey: People always stare and since I’m a female but with my tattoos they stare even more. I think people are getting use to the fact that women are getting tattoos now just as much as men do. Some people tell me I’m crazy and ask me what I’m going to do when I get older etc. I’m perfectly content with my decision though. Some people love them and don’t stop asking questions. I love those people. Also there’s just those that appreciate the art.
24: Do you have any tattoos that you regret doing for reasons such as an ex-boyfriend’s name or something or a tattoo you wish came out a little better or you made sure to avoid those situations?
Saucey: I definitely told myself to avoid those situations. I do not regret any of my work and if one day I do, I can always look back on that time in my life. Tattoos are like a story on my body and who doesn’t like stories.
24: Who actually does your tattoos and where do you get them done?
Saucey: I love my guy. His name is Jaime Avena. He actually comes to my house and makes it more convenient for me. If not then ill set up a session at his house. I have one tattoo that was not done by him. And he goes by the name of Cricket. He did a small one for me on my right thigh. An Aztec flower that represents life.
24: If you had to choose only two of your tattoos that meant the most too you which would it be and why?
Saucey: Definitely, my lady. She was the first large noticeable piece that I got. Everyone loves her and so do I. The other would be a breast cancer ribbon that I have on my right side boob. It’s pink and lined with green. The pink is for my grandmother that had breast cancer and is now a survivor. And the green is for Leukemia. One of my closest cousins contracted the disease at 13. She is now 19 and perfect. I love them both and they are two of the strongest women I know
24: How much money do you think you have spent so far on your tattoos?
Saucey: Actually, some of my work was done for free(Don’t tell anyone though). A lot were birthday gifts etc. But as far as the money I spent I’d say probably about a thousand and looking forward to spending more.
24: Before we go let the readers know how to keep up to date with everything your doing and where is the best place to check out pics, etc?
Saucey: I love this part, definitely hit me up on Twitter at www.twitter.com/Esaucey as well as Facebook at www.facebook.com/Esaucey. I’m always updating my status and adding pictures from my recent projects so please feel free to check me out and say hi. Thanks again for reading(smiling).
