24: How did the Street
Connect DJ’s start and what is the purpose of it?

DJ Krunch One: The Street Connect DJ’s have
been in existence for over a year.  It
started with five of us. We got together, sat down in a library and basically was
like
“What’s the problem with our
city? What’s wrong with the DJ’s? What’s wrong with the artists in our city?
and collectively, we thought that the DJ’s that are actually breaking records
do not get recognized as much as they need to be and when the record get’s to
the next level, a bigger DJ get’s all the fame for breaking the record so we
decided to form Street Connect DJ’s to stop that and show recognition to the
lower level DJ’s to show the media and the world that we are the one’s actually
breaking these records before they hit radio. DJ Meat and I are the last two original
founders of Street Connect DJ’s. DJ Rhymer was also a founding member, but he’s
doing his thing now as an artist so myself and DJ Meat really took over. Since
then we’ve been recruiting good DJ’s like DJ Juice. We’ve done a lot of damage
in just a year and we plan to continue growing.

DJ Juice: Me being a new member of Street Connect, we are just trying to take
that name and the brand and take it to the next level. We already have DJ’s
from Miami all the way up to Tallahassee so now it’s about putting that
official stamp that Street Connect is here and that we bout to shut the state
down. From then on else, the possibilities are endless.

DJ Killa K:
Aside from being around people who got the same passion for music, for me, being
in Street Connect means I’m a part of the Miami “Street” DJ lineage. DJ
Krunch One was DJ Uncle Al’s right hand man (R.I.P.), Krunch was part of the
legendary Sugar Hill DJ’s. Do your
research!!! and Street Connect is the 2010 version of Sugar Hill so for me, it
means being a part of a legendary Miami movement. Being down with DJ Krunch One,
DJ Meat and S.C. is like being part of Miami DJ royalty!!! Beleeedat!!!

24: What are some records that Street Connect has
broken that people outside of Florida may not be familiar with?

DJ Krunch One: We’ve broke some of Billy Blue’s records, some of
Brisco’s records, Under Surveillance, we were a major part in that Shone record getting radio airplay, I
think we were a major part of that I’m a
Zoe
record by Black Dada, right now we have a record that’s currently
tearing up the clubs that we were the first ones to touch it, which is that DAT record by Reese Head & Lucky. We
went up to Tallahassee and they were playing that in the club up there, so I
don’t know how many local artists are getting their records played up there,
and it wasn’t even from our DJ’s, it was by another DJ crew. National artists
that I know we played in our market first, Plies’ Becky, Steady Mobbin’ with
Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane. We were the first to jump that off down here. Wasted by
Gucci, I can name a lot of records we broke and played first in our market but
until we get someone signed, that’s when I think we’ll finally get our props.
We just constantly break records and take them to the next level because a lot
of these records don’t even make it to West Palm Beach. That’s where DJ’s like
DJ Juice come in at. A lot of these records don’t make it to Orlando and
beyond. We take them there.

DJ Juice: That DAT record, I see a lot. Like everywhere. Lo Boi and Str8 Drop
records, shout out to them. Anything that comes out of Miami or Florida period
we touch pretty much (laughs).

24: So your pretty much saying that Street Connect has
a heavy influence alongside with the record labels to break these records or
mainly Street Connect DJ’s?

DJ Krunch One: Strictly the Street Connect DJ’s. The record labels
do not provide us any budgets. They provide us the product, and we show artists
love because our mission is to break artist. Like I said earlier, we move on
our own accord. We are trying to show artists from our state that we break
their records, not only artists from Miami. We’re going to break records from
Tampa, etc. We want to help artists get signed. That’s what we are here for. No
budget, this is all Street Connect. Like with the e-Blasts, if I e-blast
something, another DJ will pick it up and e-blast in his market. My other DJ’s
e-blast it in their market. It’s all work that we put in.

DJ Juice: With the Street Connect, it’s like you get a direct link to that
artist. If you move all the record labels and politics to the side, then it’s
just you and the artist. Everyone knows what Street Connect is capable of, how
many DJs we have so basically id the music is good, we gonna show it love. If
not, you just gotta get back to that studio (laughs)

DJ Krunch One: Don’t get it twisted, we do charge for our services
but on certain projects we just wanna get our hands on it. Certain projects we
don’t charge, we see that it’s a decent project and we go in and help promote
it just to show love but we do charge for our services.

24: With everything that the Street Connect DJ’s have
been able to accomplish within a year, how far do you see it going and do you
see it turning into Street Connect having their own record label, their own
distribution, etc.

DJ Krunch One: Yes. In a year’s time, I’m very proud of us. We
started off rocky, had to change up our roster a couple of times, making sure
we had the right people on the team. Right now I feel like we have a great
group of DJ’s that actually grind. We’re all like brothers so I feel like we
are going to be the next Core DJ’s. I see a record label in the future but I’m
really going to get all into that right now, but I think we’ll be a big
coalition because the foundation has been set. Now that the foundation has been
set with this group of DJ’s, everybody that comes to the table now knows what
to expect.

DJ Meat: Honestly, I feel very good about where we at and where we came from but
I’m not satisfied with where we at right now. I’m happy, but not satisfied. I
feel like we can be and are going to be one of the biggest things out of the
city. Miami is a hard market to please but we are doing it. We’re making things
happen and within a year’s time, gained a lot of respect since this is a hard
place to gain respect from. As a artist, DJ, etc. it’s hard for people to
respect you simply for the lifestyle that we live but we are growing and it’s
not going to stop. People try to come against it but it’s not going to happen.
What’s God’s will is God’s will.

DJ Killa K:
The sky’s the limit for Street Connect, well shit, the moon really!!! As long
as local artists need to be heard, we gon be here and we not stoppin’. First
our state, then the country and as far as fan base, we got the streets. That’s
who fuck wit Street Connect; Street Niggas and Street B*itches (excuse my
language) because we are in the clubs and in the streets right there with them,
unlike other DJ’s all their so called “Hood Spots” (laughs). We there
and when we are outta town we rep for them. So that’s our fan base; the streets.
We are not stars and not tryna be, let’s just call them people who are down
with the connect.

24: How does Street Connect DJ’s compete with other DJ
organizations like Big Dawg Pitbulls or Core DJ’s that have already solidified
themselves as organizations that break and promote new talent?

DJ Krunch One: We don’t compete. I’m a Core DJ. We are not in the
game to compete, we are branding ourselves, we stay in our own lane. We move
different from all those other crews. We are here to help artists get signed.
Maybe on the outside looking in people might think we’re trying to compete or
compare us to other coalitions but we’re in it for that. We just trying to
break these artists and get them to the next level and at the same time, help
get our Miami sound to a national audience.

DJ Meat: We’re not trying to compete. Competition is a natural thing but I
wouldn’t call it competing because if that was the case, all the other
coalitions would’ve tapped into our market or the Florida market period.  We’re standing by what we do and we stay in
our own lane. We are not trying to be like the Core or anyone else. We are
Street Connect and our hard work will show that we do show love and break local
talent, given them a buzz and a presence in the streets. I think the more
stronger we get, the more powerful we’ll get so I don’t think about
competition.

24: Who do you think is going to be the next artist to
blow up from Miami?

DJ Krunch One: I think Ballgreezy is going to be the next biggest
artist to come out of Miami. We helped promote that Shone record real crazy and that was a long time ago. Everything
Greezy drop, we support.

DJ Meat: Ballgreezy. Music wise, everything he drops is a single. He has a song
on his Free Agent with DJ Smokeybear,
a song that I didn’t like and didn’t think it was the hottest song on the CD
but is, was Hey Girl. I clung to that
song real fast. He has that star quality. I feel like he’s going to be the next
person to blow right along with Brisco and Billy Blue if he gets the right
push.

DJ Killa K:
There’s too many to name and I ain’t tryna leave nobody out (laughs) shout out
to everybody doing they thing and if you fuck with the connect, we fuck with
you.

24: Do you feel that Street Connect has the ability to cross
over into mainstream media outlets like some of your counterparts?

DJ Meat:
I honestly think we do for the simple fact that we are more or less A&R’s
than DJ’s now. We have started an style in what the industry wants and what the
mainstream is looking for so I think the majority of us have that ability to
switch over to mainstream and go through a lot of mainstream pipelines instead
of being called “underground DJ’s” or “street DJ’s” or whatever you want to
call it.

DJ Killa K:
Well with the Street Connect, It ain’t about crossing over with us, it’s about
bringing the mainstream media outlets to us because at the end of the day, it’s
the streets that say what’s poppin’ and what’s not, not mainstream media so
basically we just do us and if it crossover then hey, but we damn show ain’t
crossing over!!! and we could care less about our counterparts.

24: Do you think it will be accepted in markets initially
that aren’t familiar with the street connect?

DJ Meat:
Yes. I feel like eventually it will be accepted because the work that we do,
the promotion that we do, the work that we grind on. Everybody needs the market
that we in so eventually the mainstream will have no choice but to accept it
because everything is going back into the streets; like with street promo and
street grind and that’s how you originally build a record, through the streets
and we have the streets on lock so it will be accepted

DJ Killa K:
Well we a DJ crew that breaks records. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be accepted
in other markets if its about good music, breaking records and putting on for your
city, then you gotta fuck with us.

24: How can anybody that wants to get in touch with
