24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.
Chi Chi Monet: My name is Chi Chi Monet. I’m a 9 year old rapper/singer from the Washington, DC area. I’m in the 4th grade and I attend school in Wash DC. I rap and sing about songs that are relative to today’s youth.
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you?
Chi Chi Monet: When I was in the First grade, I asked my father to help me write a song for my class and my school. ‘I Like To Learn’ was the song and became my first single. Everyone liked the song and I’ve been making songs ever since. I’m inspired by my father. He teaches me how to write and compose songs. I’m also musically inspired by Drake, Adele, Chris Brown, and many others.
24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?
Chi Chi Monet: I’m not too familiar with the Hip-Hop scene because my parents don’t allow me to listen to that much Hip-Hop because a lot of it is too inappropriate, but I do know that I love the Hip-Hop beats of the music they let me listen to, and that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to make my own music.
24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?
Chi Chi Monet: I’m unique because I actually have a positive message in my songs. I also have the ability to story tell in my music as well. My style is versatile. I can rap fast, slow, and sing on any given track.
24: Tell us about what you are working on.
Chi Chi Monet: I’m currently working new material and singles for my upcoming debut album. I also often perform in various shows and events in the DMV area and abroad.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
Chi Chi Monet: I work with The Grizwallz. They produce all of my songs. The Grizwallz is the production team that includes my dad* Ronimo*, Scoop, and Monnii. I would like to work with Kanye West and Timbaland, and Missy Elliot in the future.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Chi Chi Monet: Yes, I am happy with the feedback. Most people I come across, parents and kids alike love my music. I know I can’t please everyone, but I am happy that I can provide music the parents can feel comfortable letting their children listen to.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make yourself a household name?
Chi Chi Monet: I will make my myself a household name by continuing to make music that young people want to hear, working hard, and being a positive voice of the youth.
24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?
Chi Chi Monet: The current state of Hip-Hop today lacks substance. Again, it’s too inappropriate for the younger ears. I can’t fully enjoy the music because most of it is too inappropriate. My parents are very involved and they monitor closely what I can listen to and cannot.
24: Outside of the music what else are you currently working on?
Chi Chi Monet: I just entered the 4th grade and I am focused on being a straight A student. Education is first. I’m also an All-Star cheerleader, but this season I will be dancing competitively. Piano and voice lesson will also be begin soon. I also stay active with weekly Power tumbling classes.
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2012 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
Chi Chi Monet: I plan on taking my music career as far as God allows me to take it. I separate myself by using my voice and keeping my lyrics relative to people my age younger and older. If I continue to stay true to that formula, I believe that the recognition that I deserve will follow.
