24: Introduce yourself to everyone that may not be familiar already with who you are.
What it look like 24hourhiphop? Everybody it’s the kid D.Cash, “D dot, he hot” to those more familiar and Miami gardens we are in the building. Well, on.com at least (laughs)
24: Can you briefly give our viewers your history on how you came about getting into the industry and who were some of the artists that inspired you?
Well I’ve always been a fan or hip-hop first and foremost and I would play with it writing little verses but nothing serious. You know everybody wants to be a rapper (laughs) but I started to really see it was something I wanted to pursue after I heard my uncle (Tony Manshino) and his group Iconz on the radio with that smash hit “Get Crunked Up” record. As far as inspiration I would have to say Fabolous, Jay-Z, and T.I played a hand in that.
24: Besides having a very distinctive voice, your style of music is very different than that of your peers and overall very different from what usually comes out of Miami. Was that conscious decision to create music like that?
No not at all, I just make the type of music I always liked listening to. I just try to impress myself which I happen to be my biggest fan and critic. Honestly and I know I may catch heat for this but I never really listened to southern rap until T.I. and Jeezy came out. I’ve always had a heavy east coast influence music wise. So nope never tried to be different just always been me.
24: Have you ever felt like too much time passes in the game where you have to make it and that window is closing?
Naw. I believe that God has it already set that I will win. So I don’t see a window closing and I don’t let the “time” distract me. When the time’s right it will be D.Cash’s time and when that flame burns out I will bow out gracefully and be glad I had a chance to share my thoughts with the world. God controls all so I’ll do me and let him do him. Sorry for the sermon but they do call me “Creflow Dolla” (laughs).
24: Who in the industry right now would you say you listen to on a regular and would probably like to work with in the near future?
I listen to Fabolous mostly, I won’t lie. He has been killing it for a while now. Aside from him I’m feeling Rick Ross heavy that would be dope collab, Jay-Z of course that goes without saying he’s the greatest ever. Jeezy, T.I. I mean it’s a few of them.
24: Before you drop the third installment of your Unsigned Hype mixtape series, you just recently released a mixtape called “The Prequel” hosted by DJ Spinna. Tell us about that project.
That project there is very special to me reason being it’s a dedication to my grandmother kind of. She recently passed and I was left feeling very distraught with a million thoughts a minute. So I was able to focus my energy into my music and before I knew it I had a mixtape done. So I decided to put it out. Plus it gets everyone ready for my first EP “2 Real 4 Radio” and “Unsigned Hype Vol. 3” So shouts out to Dj Spinna and the whole Swag skool Airlines team.
24: In the beginning stages of both projects, what producers and artists have you worked with or would like to work with on this upcoming project?
Well as far as producers I would like to work with anyone hungry, creative and ready to work. I love a big sound. Beats are to me more important than lyrics at times. Hard lyrics and a wack beat can be a snooze. Hard beats and wack lyrics can be a hit most times especially now (laughs) but as far as features I have worked with a lot of artist but no matter how many I always try to get Jigg and Phresh James on my projects.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you’ve been getting from the song “Creflow Dolla” and the projects you’ve released so far?
Yes the feedback is always positive, sometimes it really bugs me out because I get so much praise “I’m like wow you really like my song like that? “, “You mean the shit I just wrote and recorded? “, “You know I’m not a star right?! ” (laughs) I can tell myself I’m great all day but when someone else does it I get modest, bashful almost. I’m just thankful you know.
24: When you put music up for free download, does it bother you at all that you’re giving out the music for free or do you look at that as something that you have to do at this point in your career?
I look at it as an investment and it doesn’t bother me at all. It shows how confident I am in my product. I think you will like this so much I will give it to you absolutely free and I bet you come back for more. And 99.9 percent of the time I’m right. Even when I take off I will always drop free joints gotta feed the streets.
24: Have you had a good experience building with other Miami-bred artists?
Yes, everyone is embracing the kid very well. As far as collabs for my projects and them reaching out to me for a hot 16, it’s real cool. I like for artists to come to the studio and we knock out tracks together. I always have a good time in the studio creating that chemistry. Believe it or not 90 percent of everyone has been cool or at least cool when their in my face that’s good enough I guess (laughs).
24: What are your thoughts on the New Miami movement?
It’s real dope. A bunch of talented guys in one clique, it’s like the super friends or some shit (laughs). I wish them all success and know when I’m at the top most of them will be right there as well. The talent is undeniable. But as far as D.Cash is concerned I’m more so focused on the 2FlyyEnt, 2FlyyCrue movement, building my brand. Shouts-out to them though.
24: Do you enjoy the social networking aspect of the game or do you look at it like it’s something you have to do?
Both. I am the most technology illiterate person in 2010 I think. (laughs) I’m not the most social person on the regular I prefer small crowds and I keep a small circle. So I was reluctant to jump on any social networking sites at first but they talked me into it and now I see the benefits of it. Especially twitter I can each artists, Dj’s, my supporters and update them on everything D.Cash in minutes. And besides networking I like to say random things it’s entertaining as well. Me and my dudes really get it poppin on twitter (laughs).
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2010?
Honestly after I drop 2 Real 4 Radio later this year. I see myself everywhere. I think The Prequel is opening their ears, 2 Real 4 Radio will open their eyes, and next year Vol. 3 will open their hearts. The futures looking bright I got my high beams on!
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need that you don’t have to make yourself a household name?
With me all I need is a person’s time, just the opportunity to make my presentation. The quality of work is that great that I don’t need anything else but your undivided attention for a few minutes. The rest will handle itself. I just have to get everyone to pay attention.
And when’s your album coming?
No date set in stone but 2 Real 4 Radio will definitely be out before the end of the year!!
How do you feel about the current state of music in general?
Music is always changing. A lot of bullshit out, but who am I to call another man’s so called “creativity” bullshit. I just go with the flow, I use to worry bout shit like that but now I just do my thing. Like I said before, God got me. I just make sure the lyrics are there and let the rest happen. No one or no “state of music” can stop what is destined for me.
What are you currently working on?
“2 Real 4 Radio” I’m just putting the final touches on it. It’s a music beauty but you’ll see soon enough.
How would the fans go about contacting you?
They can call me on my cell direct 305 76… (laughs) just playing. Follow me on twitter @TheRealDCash and the D.Cash website will be up really soon so that will be another way as well. I’m gonna announce when it’s done soon.
Thank you for providing 24hourhiphop.com with this exclusive interview, do you have any last words for your present and future fans?
2 Real 4 Radio is on the way, get The Prequel now, and I don’t have fans just supporters that I will forever be grateful for. Thank you. 2 up 1 down.
