24: How does D-League differ from other groups?
D-League: We are self-driven and don’t wait for things to come to us, we go get it. We are the whole package, an A&R’s dream. We are young, but still treat our craft like a business so we make fewer mistakes and more advances. Also we have a different sound because we were influenced by south, east, and west music. Uncut was born in NY, Demo was born in Cali, and we live in the gun state so our movement should be felt by all rather then a particular region.
24: Tell me about some of the things you guys have been working on because I saw a lot of press interviews, etc which in my eye’s shows that your on your grind compared to just saying it?
D-League: Like I said we are go-getters, so we put ourselves out there to make sure we are seen at all times. Right now we are chopping up a show for the BET Hip Hop awards in ATL and then we will continue to work on our next mixtape hosted by DJ Smallz that should be available thanksgiving 07. We also have some sponsorship in the works that will be a good look once it goes through.
24: How have the DJ’s been responding to playing your music which is really the key of getting the attention of these major labels today?
D-League: They have actually been showing us mad love cause we try and build relationships with them. They feel the music and we give them reasons to make them play it, such as drops etc. We need DJ’s and they need hot music, so we supply them.
24: I know that you guys are a group but will each of you be working on solo projects in the future?
D-League: Yeah, I don’t see why not, but at the end of the day it’s still D LEAGUE. So if you see something solo from Demo or Uncut just look at it as we’re representing who we came with.
24: Which major label would you love to be apart of if you could have it your way?
D-League: To be honest we just want to be with the major label that has us in mind and let us do what we need to do to be the trendsetters, role models, and leaders of the new school like we know we are. Def Jam, Capitol, Universal, Jive, Atlantic, etc. all sound like home if we can come to the right agreement and make it happen.
24: Not many major artists are selling records at the moment, so tell me if you guys get signed what will the D-League do different that these major artist are failing to do?
D-League: When we get signed (not if) we are not going to be categorized as ring tone rappers. We will make the fans fall in love with us as D League and not just that one song with a catchy hook because fans by albums to see what you have to say and know you. Also we won’t focus on the label to push us, although they should. We will keep pushing by getting our own press, Youtube, etc. We have many ideas, but I can’t give them all out, lol. Just know D- League will be the next hip hop moguls.
24: What’s the best way for someone to get in contact with you or get more familiar with your music?
D- League: our official website www.dleaguemusik.com and myspace.com/dleague. Big shout outs to Perfective Design, they sponsored our site and have won 3 awards for it cause it’s that hot. While your there you can check out “D League Radio” and “D League TV”.24: Anything you want to say before we go?
D-League: Yeah, make sure you check out www.dleaguemusik.com and www.myspace.com/dleague to get familiar with the movement about to takeover. Big shouts to Ashleigh (read her article in the Ice Cream Parlor section) Faction, 305 for showing us love and the Broward county movement that we about to bring to the forefront, Back 2 businesses!
