24: Introduce yourself to everyone and let them know where your representing?
D-Mac: I go by D-Mac aka Alex Hitchens to the women. I like to think of myself as Arkel to these Urkels. I hold it down for the whole Brownsub, and I rep the block of 31-Live! I’m the “Best In Dade Bar for Bar” and I can show you that better than I can tell you.
24: What do you feel your bringing to the music world?
D-Mac: Above all, I’m bringing more versatility to the music world, especially Miami’s music world. I’m the complete opposite of artists who are “Too Hard” to make certain types of records. I have a balance of music for the ladies and for the streets. I’m a rapper and an artist. There’s definitely a difference, and I’ll eventually master them both and blend them one day. I’m still growing. You feel me?
24: Who were some artist that you would say influence you musically?
D-Mac: Fabolous and T.I. would be the prime example of what I call versatile. When you hear there albums, you hear a little of it all for every type of crowd. Making diverse music is an important skill to have. I never want to limit myself to one crowd. Besides their influence, I would say such as Freeway, Lupe Fiasco, and Nas influenced me as well. They all paint vivid lyrical pictures, and I want to master that ability one day as well.
24: You just dropped your new mixtape “The First Impression” so tell the readers what they should expect from it?
D-Mac: It’s 13 original records, and hopefully, there is at least one record that everyone can enjoy. I have records for the streets, records for the ladies, and records for anyone who just enjoys music, so
everybody should check it out!
24: Who are some of the producers you have been working with and who would you love to work with in the near future?
D-Mac: The only producer that I’ve worked with is my in house producer Da Bad Guy. I’m currently looking to work with a bunch of different producers right now in search for a different sound from whats on “The First Impression“. As far as artists are concerned, I’m more than willing to work with everyone, but it must be genuine. No wave riding either way.
24: At a time when the music industry is at an Up & Down state which would you what to sign to an Indie Label or a Major?
D-Mac: I’ve been paying very close attention to what’s happening in the industry. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a real significant difference in whether you sign to an Indie or a Major Label. The most important
thing is establishing your name and branding yourself. Once that’s complete, anyone could be successful regardless of what kind of deal signed.
24: What should the readers look out for from you in 2009?
D-Mac: They should look out for “The First Impression” which is nothing but a warm up mixtape. I’m working on the first mixtape to solidify myself proclaimed status as the “Best In Dade” which will be called “The Rap Bret Hart,” so be on the look out, soon. Expect to hear and see a lot about D-Mac from this point on.
24: How can someone find out more about to and check out your music?
D-Mac: www.IMDMAC.com is where you can download “The First Impression” as well as my freestyles. My site will keep you current with everything happening as far as my career and my personal life. I think it’s important for people to know you as a person at the same pace of listening to your music and growth as an artist. The links to Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, etc are all on the site. Join the site, download the music and watch me grow.
24: Is there anything you want to say to the readers?
D-Mac: I was told if you’re going to do it, then do it big. An if you’re not trying to be the best, then I don’t know why you’re even trying. I say I’m the “Best In Dade Bar for Bar” and I mean that. If you feel that you are, then good! I hope you take offense to it in a positive manner. Go back in the lab and write your best verse, and when I hear it, I’m going to go and do the same. If we all are trying to be me the best, only the best can come out of us. Get familiar with me because I’m here now, and I have no plans of going elsewhere.
