Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are. My real name is Tristan Dobson, my friends call me Doobz, but my stage name is Doobz Da Kidsta.
Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you? I always loved music , different genre’s not just hip hop. I got into music through a highschool friend and producer Black Metaphor. He told me I had a voice that needed to be heard and if used the right way could have a huge influence on people. After I heard that it was no turning back from there. I moved back to south Florida, linked up with my group F.A.M at the time and got started on my future.
What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from? The hip hop scene was different but enlightening for me. Being raised in New York until I was 13, then back and forth from Florida and Georgia until I graduated high school the different cultures of hip hop altered my perception in a great way.
What makes you Unique as an artist and different from other rappers out now? What makes me unique from other artist is my personality. I put that into my music and into the beats I pick for my songs. If im to be compared to another artist, I’d make sure it’s one of the legends , alive or deceased.
Tell us about what you are working on.
Im currently working on my demo titled “The DEMO.” The project consist of four tracks and will be released July 20th.
What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future? I have worked with producers such as Wally West, Thelonius Martin, and Black Metaphor. Producers that I would love to work with in the future is Wishlade, Pharrell, Antholgy, and The Justice League.
Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released? Im very happy with the feedback I have been getting from my recent released material.
In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make yourself a household name?
You to be consistent. If your not consistent you are not going to survive in this new age. Consistency is key.
How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene? All honesty I love the direction hip hop is going. All these artist with so much originality and creativity have so much different avenues to break out and make something of themselves. It’s a good look indeed.
Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on? Outside of music I working on myself . Trying to become a better man for my friends and family.
Where do you see yourself going in 2013 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve? In 2013 I see myself becoming more and more recognized for my music, on a local level that it’s. To separate myself from artist , I’m just going to be me, as vague as that sounds that’s all your getting. I don’t want anybody taking my ideas lol.
