24: Introduce yourself to the readers and let them know where your from?
Dre Films: My name is Andres “DRE” Alvarez aka Dre Films. I was born and raised in Miami,FL.
24: What made you want to get into directing?
Dre Films: I’ve always loved anything that has to do with movies and music videos. Starting out I wasn’t sure how but I knew I definitely wanted to get in this game some how. Being that I’m such a big critic on how films and music videos are made, directed/ edited it felt like the best fit for me. A definite motivator was seeing a lot of the music videos being put out on sites like “WorldStarHipHop.com” that made me think “I can do that” or “I can do that better“.
24: Did you go the school for film or was it more of a passion that you always had and you taught yourself and got pointers from other directors etc?
Dre Films: Passion is what drove me to do what I’m doing today. I started with a little hand-held camera and really enjoyed being out in the street doing Guerrilla style filming. I invested in myself and founded Dre Films. From filming exclusive events to behind the scenes for music videos, I gained a ton of experience. I surrounded myself around different directors and production company’s to learn what goes into producing videos from ways to film to post production. I also sat down and studied music videos and films, breaking down each cut in a edit and different styles of filming.
24: With Video’s becoming the new “Mixtape” and having a video here up on “24HourHipHop.com“, “WorldstarHipHop.com” or “OnSmash” to name a few sites means everything to the promotion of an up and coming artist grind to one day getting a deal these days I wanted to know how do you feel when these low budget videos are done all wrong with no concept or vision what so ever?
Dre Films: Lol, so you noticed that too. An just like you and me now everyone else notices it as well. It’s mind blowing how an artist will release a mediocre product for the world to see. It tarnishes their image and unfortunately he or she might not get a second chance to impress. Just because it’s low budget doesn’t mean it has to “Look Low Budget” you feel me! Artist should definitely do their homework before hiring someone to produce a video for them.
24: Who would you say inspires you and makes you say I have to take my videos to another level?
Dre Films: Directors such as Gil Green, Mr. Boomtown, Rik Cordero, Gabriel Hart, David Rousseau are definitely people that inspire me. From the artist they work with to the quality of videos they put out, these guys are some of the best directors in the game right now.
24: Which music video you wish you had done and why?
Dre Films: Any video with Three 6 Mafia, especially the more recent underground ones like “F#ck Boy/I’m Drunk Remix” and “North Memphis Like Me“. I just feel I could of brought a little something more to those in particular. I am a big fan of their work and style and hope to work with them someday soon.
24: What would you say you bring to the table that separates you from other directors?
Dre Films: I like to work with the artist. I want the artist to be part of the creative process. They wrote the song, went through thoughts and emotions in the process and they all made that initial video in their heads to their track. I just want to help them get their vision out for everyone to see. I’ve been told I got a good eye for things and know how to capture the moment.
24: You recently shot a video with up and coming artist Vito for his new single “Street Money” so tell me how that came about and how happy are you with the response you have been getting because the internet has been buzzing and the plays in the video section shows why?
Dre Films: I reached out to Vito and let him know I was interested in working with him. He came to me with “Street Money” and it was a go from there. He Co-Directed the video as well. Vito is serious about his music and has a clear vision on where he wants to be and he most definitely is going to get there. We are both very happy with the outcome and all the feedback we have gotten over the video. “Street Money” is opening peoples eyes to Vito as an artist and me as an up and coming director. Can’t wait to work with the big homey again.
24: Tell me about some of your next projects your working on right now?
Dre Films: Just finished filming two videos that are in the editing stages for Straight Drop Records artist Lo Boy for “Git Ghetto” and for Ft. Lauderdale artist D League for “Coming Up“. I’m in the talks right now with a lot of local artist including Garcia, C Ride, Murph, Prime Legend, Valholla Ent., Miami up and coming artist such as Jon J., City Of God, to mention a few.
