24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.

Duck: I’m just a young dude from Houston by the way of South Park. Whether you catch me on or off stage I am always the same guy. I’m not that cocky rapper most people are use to but I’m probably better than a lot of those nerds on a lyrical tip. I take care of my family and I stay real. I am my music.

24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about
how you got into and what inspired you?

Duck: I was that guy on that other guy’s song. I was doing features left and right but I was getting on them just for fun. Then people started listening and they were like “aye, you good for real”. Ain’t nothing like hearing folks you grew up with, looked up to or went to school with say you sound good. Especially when you are just saying stuff that’s on your heart. Once I got a taste of that I had to try it on my own.

24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where your from?

Duck: Ask anybody on any coast about Houston hip hop or Houston rap and they gone tell you that it’s different. They either mess with it or they don’t but the sound is undeniably unique. That slowed down, laid back music is what we grew up with so of course we love and endorse it. Houston is a big city but it’s small at the same time. The same people who are legends in the city now were at the block parties on MLK pointing and laughing when somebody got swung on. The music just weaved into our day to day lifestyle and became more than a Houston trend. It became our culture. I mean I haven’t met a Houston dude yet who can sit through that June 27th beat and not start freestlying. Try it if you think I’m lying.

24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers
 out now?

Duck: I don’t follow trends. I don’t dress like other people. I don’t act like other people and so with that I refuse to sound like anyone else. I do want and say what I feel. That’s why I stand out. Ain’t too many rappers telling people you don’t got to sell drugs to be a hustler but I am because that’s how I feel and I know it’s the truth. I don’t knock how anyone makes their money but somebody got to tell folks there is another alternative. I don’t mind being that guy.

24: Tell us about what you are working on.

Duck: Right now I am working on my mixtape titled “Unstable Mind Frame.” I had a release date set but I pushed it back. I’m taking my time with it because people are really anticipating it. I got to give it my all.

24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work
with in the future?

Duck: I work with Dbotts, Abstrakk, Terrence AKA Dr. Knocks and Major League Beats. These are the guys who help my team out a lot and support our music. As far as who I want to work with…I can’t answer that honestly. There are so many great producers out here and I would be a fool to say I knew all the best ones. For sure there is this cat who worked on Just Brittany’s mixtape named Johnny Parelli. We gone have to get on something.

24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people
on material you have released?

Duck: Yes. I’ve been getting a lot of positive responses. They make it worth the late nights, janky promoters and all the traveling. Got to have that feedback.

24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make your self a household name?

Duck: Just find yourself and make yourself distinguishable. They need to hear the track and know it is you. Work hard. Don’t expect anyone to hand you anything. As good as you rap, you got to promote ten times better and you got to be willing to meet people too. A rapper without fans is just a crazy dude talking to himself.

24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?

Duck: I think it’s actually doing better than it was in the past few years. Everyone is trying to get back to making meaningful songs and there is something out here for everybody.

24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?

Duck: I paint shirts called Duckworks. I’ve been doing that since I was like 18. Anytime I’m not rapping or with family I’m doing that.

24: Where do you see yourself going in 2012 and how do you plan to
separate yourself 
from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?

Duck: Being that I’ve only been seriously doing this thing about 6 month and I’m being interviewed by 24hourhiphop…I can’t call it. I see myself moving forward that’s for sure. As far as how to separate myself, I’m gone be Duck. Either Duck or die. Ain’t no alternatives. That always keeps me in a league of my own.
