We all have reasons for doing the things we do in life. Some are out of necessity, while others stem from passion and motivation. If you ask him yourself, artist Young D-Low will be the first to tell you that his foray into the music world was one that wasn’t as much destined for him as it was one that came from pure inspiration.

Born and raised in Miami, Young D-Low is considered by some to be the New Generation of the South. Combining flow and an undeniable image, people across the board have slowly begun gravitating towards not only his music but also his persona. His new single “Put My Swagg On It” has already created a strong buzz down south and the song is one that Young D-Low describes as a “Club banger for the ladies”.

Still, despite all of his potential and upside, it is evident in talking to the 18 year old just how relatively new he is to the game in some regards. Worldwide recognition and a glamorous lifestyle are things that D-Low may have in his sights, but they won’t come without a serious amount of fortitude and strong will.

In talking to D-Low, you sense a man who is less boastful than others yet still sure of himself enough to get his message across. He almost seems like a walking contradiction, as he blends an upfront confidence along with a heavy dose of humility and humbleness.

Wanting to get a deeper perspective of D-Low’s place in the game, 24 Hour Hip Hop recently collaborated with the artist and gathered his thoughts about his time in the game. From his initial motivation he received after watching T.I. to his desires for the future, D-Low opened up and attempted to show another side of himself. In his own words, this is Getting to Know Young D-Low…

The Main Motivation…
“I first got into music when I was in the 10th grade. I really got focused after being motivated from seeing T.I. He was my main motivation. The same way he performs is the same way I perform. I can’t say that I have been through the same things that he has been through because I haven’t but some of the things that he does I can relate to. And I can definitely say that my swagger is a lot like his.”

Nothing Too Complicated…
“I’m not a gansta rapper. I’m more like a swagger type of guy. When I do it, it’s not too complicated for people to pick up on. I make good music and I want to continue to do that. I want to move on with my career and produce in the future. I also want to right and cover as many key areas and big things as I can.”

Getting Your Name Out…
“Music is great because you get to see different things that you wouldn’t unless you were involved in music. You get to see different reactions from your audience and your fans. Things like that really open your eyes. On the same note, being involved in music isn’t always easy and the hardest part I would have to say is just trying to find a gig and connecting with an audience. Basically just trying to get your name out there is the hardest part, at least for me. It’s kind of frustrating but at the same time I am still humble and patient with it. I look at it like a challenge.”

The Best Feeling…
“To be honest I am just getting started in a lot of regards but I have already done a lot of things that have impacted my life through music. My greatest accomplishment is probably just connecting with my community through all the shows I have done. Just being able to do that is really big for me and it’s the best feeling.”

His song ‘Put My Swagg On It’…
“That song just came naturally for me. The beat was given to me by producers, Dem Boys, and I can remember the day when I first got the idea for it. I was riding up to Palm Beach and the beat was playing and at the time everybody was talking about how they had swagg of their own. I decided I had to put my own swag on it and that’s how it came about.”

Dreams and Beliefs…
“I think what separates me from other artists is that I have a certain swagg about myself that others can’t match. I can’t lie and say that I have other goals in my life because for now music is consuming everything I do. Right now this is all I have dreamed of and this is all I believe in doing.”
