24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.
J-Cutta: Hello World go by the name J-Cutta I am an artist out of Jamaica Queens NY, and I’m just here to give you my story the best way I can, the good the bad the ups and downs and how it is where I’m from…Southside!
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you?
J-Cutta: I grew up like how majority of my peers came up, with the Clue Mixtapes, the Doo Wop Tapes,Cut Master C Tapes,P Cutta Street Wars Tapes Endless Joints From Back In The Day. But since I was a baby my mother told me I use to always be a LL Cool J fan and as I got older it was Biggie, Wu-Tang, Nas, Jay-z, Its a lot more I’m sure I’m forgetting but that’s who I looked up to for the most part, as far as inspiration I would say the older dudes on my block inspired me to start rapping, I would watch the cyphers and think to myself I can do that, then next thing you know I’m here.
24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where your from?
J-Cutta: Growing up where I’m from the Hip-Hop scene was and still is the same. Very competitive, I’m either watching my favorite emcee battle it out for who’s the best in the game or battling local emcees for who’s the best in the neighborhood, now it’s just now more people are looking towards entertainment as a way to better their situation so it’s way more rappers than before, doesn’t bother me though we’re nothing alike.
24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?
J-Cutta: I feel like i am the total package. Lyrics, Songs, and creativity. Ive been known to think outside the box since forever. I have creative lines as well as song concepts. As well as how i market myself. All is very important to becoming the perfect artist. I feel the difference between me and other artist is that I can make good music in any genre as to where most artist I see are only good at making one kind of music for example an artist might make good club songs but his other songs about anything else are sub par.
24: Tell us about what you are working on.
J-Cutta: Basically I’m just working on getting a bigger buzz, gaining more Fans, Working with more artist and producers. I just finished releasing a mixtape called “A Cutt Above the Rest” right now im promoting that, i shot a few videos off it already and me and my boy Miami are currently working starting our own independent label.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
J-Cutta: I’ve worked with a few producers such as Shatek, Kajmir Royale, Mister KA, Ku beats, Anno Domini To name a few. Producers I would like to work with in the future are Swizz Beats, Justice League, Jahlil and Kanye to name a few.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
J-Cutta: I’ve been getting good feedback nothing negative to be honest. People see I put 100 percent into my music as well as my videos. I just recently released a single called “Better Without You” featuring Robbie Nova and the love I been getting for that has been incredible. You can purchase the single on Amazon, iTunes, anywhere.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make your self a household name?
J-Cutta: Consistency, quality, and money. Nothing is free and as long as you constantly put out good music and you promote and market it right, people will take notice to you.
24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?
J-Cutta: I think music is missing the hunger to be the best. Right now people are looking to make a quick buck. Not enough people striving to be the best. When growing up Jay Z, Nas, Big, Snoop and Dmx all strive to be better than the next. I don’t see longevity with majority of the rappers. There are a lot of good records out don’t get me wrong but not a lot of good artist.
24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?
J-Cutta: Outside music I work and also in the works I’m starting a business with by boy Lz out of town. I think it will be successful so we pushing to get that done.
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2012 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artists out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
J-Cutta: 2012, I plan on making my name bigger by putting out better music and better videos. Thinking outside the box and coming at the audience from a different view.
