24hourhiphop.com got a chance to sit down with Ohio’s own Jay Cartesian. He speaks to us about his upcoming projects, what he has in store for the rest of the year and the coming year. He also gives us an insight on his life and thoughts on hip hop. Check it out below and let us know what you think!

24HHH: Intorduce yourself to everyone that doesnt already know who you are?

JC: My name is Jay Cartesian, Born Joshua Carter November 30, 1990 out of Midwest Columbus Ohio.

24HHH: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into the music business and what inspired you?

JC: My history on how I got into the music & the inspiration that provoked it, were my days as a lad watching my brothers & his friends writing in their notebooks reciting whatever what was written out loud over the microphone day & night. I never knew what they were doing, so I use to sit in the hallway calmly listening while the door was shut making their music. Once I hit middle school that’s when the inspiration landed after I heard one of my friends recite a Biggie Smalls line from the song entitled Warning. I wasn’t allowed to listen to music with profanity unless I was somewhere with my brother & away from my mom lol. So after hearing one of Biggie Smalls lines from that song, I took initiation of writing my own rhymes.

24HHH: What was the hip hop scene like for you growing up where your from?

JC: The hip-hop scene for me from where I was from wasn’t anything I could actullay talk about except for the things I’ve been apart of, but also from where I’m from is actually slept on sad to say but it’s honesty. I’ve been to live shows but just to view local artist to get that feel of being in the mix of where the hip-hop scene was arousing. Along with that as well as B-Boy’s doing their thing on stage or on card board like the golden era use to do it.

24HHH: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?

JC: What makes me unique as an artist is being able to share a story, my story to the masses of what they haven’t enocountered yet. The difference of me & other rappers that leaves me excluded in their category is that I am on a mission in which I’ve been on from all the other present years. Feels like I had to go foward in time just to do so.

24HHH: Tell us about what you are working on?

JC: What I’m working on can be a tremendous amount of things or nothing the less, kept secret until the people I feel are up to enough hype to hear an artist like myself.

Check out the Jay Cartesian Jedi Mic Ep below!

24HHH: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?

JC: Producers I have worked with would be a very good & great individual that calls himself Dj BhB (Brothers Helping Brothers). There are also probably local producers I’ve worked with that have gone un-mentioned, but producers I would like to work with in the future, I’d say lets keep that under wraps until the time being lol.

24HHH: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?

JC: I’m beyond excited of the feedback I’ve been getting from my material, it’s more like I can’t believe their listeining to my music, in a good way though lol, as I’m trying to absorb all of it in.

24HHH: In todays free download age, what do you need to do to make your self a household name?

JC: In order for me to make myself a household name In todays free download age, you can say that keep pushing & taking my time is what got me noticed in the first place, & keep on maintaining a stable build up.

24HHH: How do you feel about the current state of the hiphop scene?

JC: My feels on the current state of hip-hop, I would have to say that I’m disappointed & dissatisfied on what I’m hearing in today’s era. It’s almost as if hip-hop’s entity itself including other artists, are not really interesting for me to actually listen to.

24HHH: Outside of the music what else are you currently working on?

JC: Outside of music you can say I’m working on trying to live human like as in living on daily routines that you thought about during your kid & teen years but now it’s finally here.

24HHH: Where do you see yourself going in 2012 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?

JC: In 2013 I see myself creating my path that I’ve been sketching on for years & cause people to turn heads just to keep their eyes on me. To seperate myself from other artist out today to get the recognition I deserve is to keep doing what I’ve been doing, just taking my time & building levels for myself so I make sure I get the recognition that’s needed.
