24: Introduce yourself to everyone and let them know where your representing?
Jigg: Well, I go by the name of Jigg a.k.a J-I-Double-G. I’m repping Liberty City and the whole Dade County! Some people may or may not be familiar wit me but I been grinding on the streets for a little minute with my music now and I’m trying to get as much awareness for my music as possible right now.
24: What do you feel your bringing to the music world and what separates you from other up and coming artist?
Jigg: I’m bringing more lyrical driven music with content in my opinion and from what fans as well as DJ’s tell me. I make sure I don’t depend on big features or making songs that sounds like whats working in the clubs to get attention towards my brand of music. So with the attention that I’m starting to get are from genuine fans who appreciate and recognize my talent. Basically I’m just being me and trying to give the people “Jigg”! A lot of rappers try to be either a Super-Hustler, Super-Gangter or the Super-Rich Rapper so they don’t touch the souls of people because the people cant relate to it. It might be entertaining but it don’t move you or get you through the shit your going to. An what separates me is my song writing ability and being able to portray what ever emotion I’m trying to get across in the song.
24: Who were some of your musical influences growing up?
Jigg: Man I”m a music connoisseur but I didn’t start rapping until about 2 years ago, But all my life and still to this day I have been a big music fan. But my influences range from artist like Biggie & Tupac to Outkast and Goodie Mob. Not to mention Trick Daddy, Scarface. Moving forward I will have to say artist like T.I., Wanye, 50, Kanye, DMX, Eminem, Young Jeezy and I cant forget Lauren Hill. I’m real big on old school R&B such as the Isley Bros, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Betty Wright, Teddy Pendergrass and Sade. I’m just a big fan of good music from Rap to R&B.
24: You have a new single called “Peek A Boo” that caught my attention, it’s catchy but at the same time your spitting and it has that party vibe to it which is pretty much the ingredients for a hit record so tell how has the DJ’s, Websites and streets been reacting to the record?
Jigg: Well, I appreciate that compliment a billion homie. I have been getting a lot of love from the Dade County DJ’s with that record and I definitely tip my hat off to all those who helped get the song popular. Shout out to Jr and the entire Streets FM because they have been my backbone from day one holding me down and giving me an outlet to be heard on 89.1. Also my dude DJ Phil and DJ Primetime who broke that record and got behind me one thousand percent so I appreciate them a billion for that. Not to mention DJ’s such as KrunchOne, DJ Meat, Geemoney, Pnut, Sam Sneak, Teflon, Holiday, Killa Funk, Fatt Boi, B.J., KP, Yoyo, Ace, PT, Corey, Tarique, Epps, Shawty T, Tight, Pookie, Mark-T, Toon, and DJ Fade in the 954. I still gotta long way to go but rarely see artist acknowledge how they got hot and who helped them, so all the attention I’m finally getting is a blessing. But all the love I get from the Dade County DJ’s is an even bigger blessing. So shout out to every DJ that ever play a Jigg song! As far as the websites that’s been crazy for the past two months and I never been heavy on internet and now I’m on over 10 websites as we speak. It’s a blessing but my motto will always be “I still got a long way to go“, so this is definitely appreciated but I understand and know that consistency is the key to success.
24: Who produced the record and how did it come about?
Jigg: My in house producer Solaar produced that song. Man he’s extremely talented and I’m sure he’s gonna do a lot of damage in the future. But basically he just called me to his crib one day and played the beat for me. When I heard it I was like damn, this shit is hard! Then in like 5 minutes I came up with the hook. It was a real organic, non-forced process for the song “Peek-A-Boo“. It got made real quick, I came up with the hook and told Solaar how it went and he lit- up and said “You got one”.
24: Tell about some the projects your currently working on?
Jigg: Right now I’m putting the finishing touches on my mixtape “HighGrade” that’s coming out soon. It’s all on original beats on there so people are going to be able to see my song writing ability with an array of topics that won’t come off redundant. I got my other in house producer General Ed on there along side Solaar plus a few other producers. So it’s definitely going to have some great production on there. Right now I’m just focusing on getting the proper momentum for my mixtape so that It gets the attention it deserved.
24: Who would you love to work with in the near future that you think would help bring you to a whole different level as far as producers are concerned?
Jigg: I never thought of myself needing to work with a big time producer to do my beats for me to blow, but at the same time I would love to work with a few such as producers such as Dre. Dre, Polo da Don, DJ Toomp, Justic Leauge, and Drumma Boy. man I would love to work with anybody who got heat and believes in my talent.
24: At a time when the music industry is at an Up & Down state do you have any plans of signing to a major or just keep building up your buzz at this moment?
Jigg: I have already got a few calls from people but honestly I got a lot more work to do in these streets. I feel I still have to show the public what I can do first, because its a lot of dudes signed that’s not getting that push or coming out. So being signed don’t really mean shit, its all about how much attention your generating towards your brand and how many people you have that support you at your shows and listen to your music or downloading your songs. So my focus right now is “HighGrade” and showing the public that I’m a true artist! I’m trying bust my ass and show people what hard work, faith, and prayers do for you at the end of the day and everything that comes after that is in God’s hands.
24: After seeing what Drake did on his own and caught the attention of the world as a new artist does that help inspire you when it seemed like we were just headed for another year of “Auto-Tune” records and “Ringtone Music“?
Jigg: Lol, well that’s definitely inspiring because I feel he’s a talented artist and its always good too see an artist that’s not a gimmick get attention towards his brand because that always helps out more talented artists who are also no on that gimmick shit.
24: What should the readers look out for from you in 2010?
Jigg: I got a lot planned for 2010, but first up is the mixtape “HighGrade” coming out real soon. I’ma throw out 2 more singles to the public in a little minute before the mixtape drops to show the public i can consistently make good music. Every now and then I’ll throw out a freestyle for the streets because every time I’m in the hood niggas and even females would come up to me saying “Man u need to kill this beat Jigg” or “Man you need to kill that beat Jigg“(lol).
24: How can someone find out more about to and check out your music?
Jigg: I’m bout to launch my own website pretty soon which will have all my exclusive freestyles, mixtape downloads, videos, blogs, etc. So until then you can follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/Jigg305. I’m always putting my music downloads on there and keeping my followers updated with me on a day to day basis. You can also check for me on Myspace at www.myspace.com/Jigg305 or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Jigg305.
24: Is there anything you want to say to the readers?
Jigg: I want to say that I definitely appreciate you for reaching out to me and doing this interview with me so that I can give the public some insight on the man behind. Also, I want to thank everybody who listens and appreciates my music. Please be on the look out for “HighGrade” the mixtape by yours truly JIGG a.k.a. J-I-Double-G dropping real soon. Shout out to Flu, Shula, Jr and the Streets FM, Dro, DJ Brucki, Breeze, and every single person that help me get closer to my dreams, I thank you all a billion.
