24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.
JoBee: I’m JoBee, born and raised in New Orleans, La. I’m a singer/songwriter on the come up and trying to brand my music and become a household name.
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about
how you got into and what inspired you?
JoBee: Well I’ve known that I wanted to be a singer/songwriter since age7. My mother is one of the biggest influences on my music. She always played the best of the best around our house which influenced my endeavors a great deal. I used to always immolate what I heard from that old school music (Real Music) and eventually realized it’s something I wanted to do long term.
24: What was the R&B/Pop scene like for you growing up In New Orleans
which is mostly known for its Hip-Hop?
JoBee: Well there are many singers in New Orleans but Jazz is the only strong prescence there as far as singing goes. R&B/Pop is big on the radio but not very popular genres in my city. Even with the R&B music that comes through there; the DJ’s still will add a Bounce Beat and make it a dance track. That’s why I’m trying to be the first R&B cat to carry that torch for New Orleans.
24: What makes you Unique as an artist and different from others?
JoBee: Well first off, I combine a variety of sounds and genres. I’m not totally R&B so you’ll hear a variety of genres in my vocal delivery. I truly sing live and write and arrange all of my songs. I’m bringing something that’s genuine and not fabricated just to follow some trend. The thing that makes me different than some of today’s artist is that it’s all about the music and not about fame and fortune. All of that will come if you make real music that the people can relate to and feel.
24: Tell us about what you are working on?
JoBee: Currently, I’m wrapping up my new Mixtape EP “Irresistible Me” Deluxe and starting on the follow up Mixtape. I’m also writing and working on my album titled “Vocal Stimulation” which is set to be released by next summer. I have a new website in the making and my first single “After the Club.” I just released the video for that single also which is on YouTube. I have a few collabs with international underground indie artist as well, so pretty busy right now.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work
with in the future?
JoBee: I’ve worked with Vybe Beats, Dreamaker, Alex Frasier, Flawless, and S Original just to name a few. I would love to work with Timbaland, Danja, Kanye West, Swiss Beats, Darkchild, Will I am, and David Guetta.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people
on material you have released?
JoBee: I’m extremely happy with the feedback; people are truly connecting with the music that I’ve been putting out there over the net and radio. The music has brought about quite a few opportunities to date.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need that you don’t to
make yourself a household name?
JoBee: I think I need more marketing and advertising in a major way to create an even stronger buzz. I feel like if I had the money that the majors have backing their artists, I could reach more fans.
24: How do you feel about the current state of the music scene?
JoBee: I love the true artists that are genuinely being them and that diversity that they’re bringing. I feel that real music is definitely on a rise again. I feel that for awhile it had become cookie cutter, redundant. Everyone was mimicking everyone else. You could turn on the radio and hear at least 6 or 7 songs that almost sound exactly alike.
24: Outside of the music what else are you currently working on?
JoBee: I’m working on my acting because I also aspire to be an actor and entrepreneur. I want to own my own clothing Line.
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2011 and how do you plan to
separate yourself from the other artist out there today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
JoBee: I see myself getting a hit song buzzing and creating a demand for the JoBee Brand. I plan to make music that is true to me and definitely won’t force something that’s not me just to become famous. I look at it like this, if you make real music that’s emotion driven and true, my fan base will increase.
