24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.
Kenal: My name is Kenal pronounce (K-nAl) and I am a young artist from Haiti. I was raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. Later moved to Omaha, Nebraska and have much passion for music.
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about. How you got into music and what inspired you?
Kenal: Well, I started singing at the age of six. My older brothers and my sister would always put some of the finest musicians on the radio and play good music around me. Musicians like Celine Dion, Babyface, Boyz II Men, R. Kelly, Michael Jackson and even the rock band Chicago as well as others. I started writing poetry at the age of 13 or 14 and that would lead me into songwriting by the age of 16, which is when I also recorded my first song. At that time I was either going into my Junior year in high school and this young rapper by the name of M.B. at the time overheard me singing in the hallways are asked me to work with him. From then on I fell in love with recording music.
24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?
Kenal: Growing up Hip-Hop music and R&B music was something I only enjoyed musically. Listening to rappers like LL Cool J, DMX, 2Pac, and Haitian rapper Master Dji. I never really saw myself as a musician, but I saw myself as a visual artist. Life had other plans for me and my future would lead me towards music.
24: What makes you Unique as an artist and different from other rappers out now?
Kenal: A lot makes me a unique as a musician our right now. I am primarily a singer, but the rap that I do has not been heard before and is guaranteed to bring something positive and creative that a lot of people have not experienced. I also paint, draw, design and blog. I believe as an artist one should not just sit back and let all of their promotion as well as marketing be done by their management team fully. I have the mindset of a marketer and promoter, but still have much passion for art and music.
24: Tell us about what you are working on?
Kenal: I am solely focused on promoting this mixtape for a few months; depending on the results I will most likely release another free mixtape or just focus on expanding my blog Kenalsworld, which also feature and expose other musicians. If and when a label contacts me all that may change I may work on a few singles and prepare for an album.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
Kenal: The producers that I have collaborated with so far are all underdogs and rising musicians with no specific name that would blow you out of the waters; However, I would like to collaborate with some of the genius producers of the likes of Ryan Leslie, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Polow Da Don, and Rico Love.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Kenal: I am pleased with the feedback that I have received from those that have listened to my music, but not satisfied with just positive feedback. I believe there have to be more that comes my way.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make yourself a household name?
Kenal: I blog, promote and network. As said before I do not have the mindset of an artist that depends on a manager or agent to promote me as an artist. I do it all myself at this point because it have not been overwhelming. I am sure once it gets to the point where it is too much to handle I will need an assistant to help me. Right now my blog kenalsworld.com is how I am establishing a presence online and expanding my network.
24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?
Kenal: I can feel anyway about it, but does that mean as one man I have the power to change it? No. Music has changed much the past decade and the next decade it is going to change again.
24: Outside of the music what else are you currently working on?
Kenal: Aside from music I am creating original artworks, painting, drawing, blogging, and just putting in work to have a successful career and live a well-structured lifestyle whether or not a record deal comes my way or not. I am also very much into photography and shoot fashion photographs and others via PicturesPhotographer.com
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2013 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
Kenal: I see myself crossing the finish line with rest of the runner-ups behind me. I offer a lot through music, but through visual arts, design, and through my blog. As an artist I do not limit myself to just music, but get involved in art in general.
