24:
What made you want to produce compared to being an artist or singer, manager,
etc?

Lab Ox:
The interesting thing is that I actually was an artist to begin with. I just
feel my role as a producer is much greater, and encompasses the actions of an
artist, and manager combined. Being a producer is having hands-on control of
what the record sounds like, and often you give different artists a different
view creatively so they can put together the best track.

24:
Describe your production style and what you feel are your best strength?

Lab Ox:
My production style is usually whatever I happen to be feeling at the time, so
to describe it in one word….unpredictable. I base what I create on how I’m
feeling at the moment. I would say that my best strength is being able to adapt
to any style of music and emulate it into an incorporation of something that
would sound like a “Lab Ox” production.

24: Do
you consider yourself a producer or a beat maker and explain why?

Lab Ox:
Definitely a producer. I feel the role of a producer are much more demanding
and requires a high attention to detail. A producer sometimes gives the artist
specific direction, gives session musicians a certain feel for the music he/she
composed…pieces together the puzzle to complete the final picture. A mere
“beat maker” just sits and makes beats. You evolve into a producer
when you take on the creative direction of the record being made.

24: I
know you recently worked with 50 Cent on “Part Time Lover” and Hot
Rod, so who are some other artists you have been working with and who are some
artist you personally want to work with in the future?

Lab Ox:
I want to work with as many people as possible! Haha. Artists I’m working with
right now include my artist J Angel, Anzeo from Making The Band, Young Hot Rod,
G Unit, LL Cool J, and B.G. just to name a few. I would love to sit and work
with Timbaland, Kanye West, and Lauryn Hill….those types of artists who
usually aren’t restricted to one style/type of music.

24: How
do you approach making a beat, do you start with the drums first or a kick?

Lab Ox:
It’s really whatever comes to my head first. There isn’t really a set method I
use. Sometimes I might hear a melody in my head and start humming it, then lay
it down. Sometimes I’ll hear a beat in my head and start to beat box a rhythm.

24: How
is the industry treating you as far as being an up and coming producer trying
to make your name in this game?

Lab Ox:
The industry is treating me as if I’ve been here for a while, which is funny because
I didn’t expect that so soon! Everyone I’ve ran into has shown me nothing but
love and support for what I’m doing, and anyone who’s trying to help advance my
career has had nothing but great things to show and teach me. So far, so good.

24:
What producer in the game at the moment makes you say damn! When you hear a
beat they did and make you want to step up your production?

Lab Ox:
Haha, several. Timbaland, Darkchild, Just Blaze, The Underdogz…too many to
name! Those are the core ones though.

24: Do
you have any plans of starting a label later on and have artist or do you just
want to keep focusing on being the best producer possible?

Lab Ox:
Right now my focus is strictly on becoming the best producer I can possibly be.
I don’t want to take on the responsibility of running a label until I’m ready
to take that step. I would want the proper knowledge and guidance going into
something so huge. I do have my own production company called Ex.O
Entertainment, and work closely with Heaven Underground Entertainment, and
Solid Projects Management.

24:
What’s some up and coming moves you’re trying to make in the near future that
everyone should look out for?

Lab Ox:
Look out for work with G Unit, J Angel, and a few artists over at
Atlantic…can’t release any information just yet, but keep your eyes open for
that!

24: How
can someone get in contact with you about some business or check out your
music?

Lab Ox:
You can contact me directly at my myspace page (www.myspace.com/LabOxBeats),
and lastly, you can contact my business partner Nu of Solid Projects management
at SolidProjects@gmail.com, or 914-320-2412.
