24: You have a very strong buzz in New York right now which
means that you actually stay on your grind, so let the readers know how
important that is for you as a up and coming artist?

Lexx: It’s definitely important, so being on the underground
circuit you got to keep your buzz going. It’s about timing and you never know
when that door is going to open for you. They might not pay attention to you as
strong as other people, but they payed attention. At the end of the day if you
grinding and doing what your suppose to be doing good things are going to
happen.

24. Your name is very interesting “Lexx 9Eleven” can you
explain it to everybody?

Lexx: Basically to make a long story short Lexx just stuck
with me. I wasn’t taking this music serious at the time it was just something
to do. I had got a call out in L.A. and by then it was too late Lexx just stuck
with me. As the years went on I just decided to call myself 9Eleven, because
that’s the hardest way to put New York on my name.

24: So what happen in New York on September 11 had a big
influence on your name?

Lexx: Yeah everywhere I go it’s funny because when they hear
that name they’re like where am I from.

24: Being an up and coming artist repping Queens, New York
where a lot of critics have been saying that New York hip-hop is not the same.
Compared to recent years how do you feel about that personally?

Lexx: I feel like its changing, meaning hip-hop as a whole.
I don’t feel like it’s just New York Hip-Hop, all the other regions and
everybody is changing. It’s just the growth in the music of Hip-Hop. I feel
like everything else that’s around the music outside of the music is kind of
controlling it and it’s not so much the music. That’s kind of holds back all
the dudes that is hot or the people that is really out here grinding. Right now
it’s a lot of politics. Back in the day all you needed was a hot verse, a hot
song, and you was good. Now it’s a million and one songs out from artist all
over that’s hot, but now it’s like if a DJ is not backing you, you’re done for!
If you don’t have a certain amount of money nobody cares no matter how good
your music is. I feel like hip-hop is changing for the better and the worse at
the same time.

24: How you feel about the politics in today’s music
industry?

Lexx: I feel like it’s all bullshit, but you have to respect
the upper hand, at the end of the day I just try to grind and keep going about
my business no matter what the circumstances is!

24: So with all the bullshit that goes on in the business
what keeps you focused as an artist and keeps you making good music?

Lexx: Competition around me and the genuine fans that I have
around me. It’s the streets that tell me to keep going. The difference between
me and a lot of other artist is that I actually got good music. I got music
that labels would consider a “Single”, Hit Records as well as reality music. My
situation just haven’t got to a point where the I have a major backing me,
because I don’t be running around with a bunch of DJ’s as my best friend. What
keeps be focused is the non-politics and the people that’s around me.

24: It’s the first quarter of the year and everybody knows
it’s a big time in the music industry. Where do you want to be by the end of
the year?

Lexx: By the end of the year I plan on setting up the other
people that’s around me. I plan on this being my best year yet and setting
everybody else up around me. I grew up around the same blocks like 50 and
everything so I’ve seen it happen. Dominance wise and good music wise, but a
year from now this is going to be a conversation to look back on and say, “I
told ya’ll” [laughs].

24: Speaking on what you just said do you look forward to
signing with a Major Label?

Lexx: Well, honestly whatever sounds good numbers wise. They
got this new little system they doing with the new deals and if your not going
to back me the way I am like the people around me then I don’t need them. If
they going to take it back to when labels would support their artist by putting
them in the best position to win then yeah.

24: Why the people should check for you?

Lexx: Because I’m spitting that shit they want to hear.
Regardless if it’s in the club, the streets, about a chick, it’s just straight
real life. It’s all real life and everything I incorporate into my music is
just real life experiences.

24: Final message for the readers?

Lexx: Catch me on myspace.com/lexx9eleven, check for me
because I’m about to raise the bar.
