24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.
Mel: Mel Buckley from the South of Chicago, chillin’ in Vegas and Houston right now relaxed…
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into the music and what inspired you?
Mel: Well, I came up around music just was never pushed to do it seeing as I was 6’6 and very talented at basketball, but situations with my health and breaking my foot in Europe pushed me to embrace my talent and passion for music by the time i got healthy things were moving so well i decided to stay with it.
24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?
Mel: Hip-Hop is big in Chicago, avid Biggie and Jay-Z fans even as R&B goes R. Kelly had a huge Hip-Hop connect, so even when we’re singing it’s very urban and Hip-Hop inspired.
24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?
Mel: Well, I think what makes me different is im an intellect … Ive seen tough times and Ive also graduated from college with a double degree in English and Psychology so for me Ive seen a lot at a young age and every story I tell rather Im singing or on a mixtape rappin a bit its all real.
24: Tell us about what you are working on.
Mel: Well, right now we are putting together an album named “Choose Up” already had the likes of Twista, Yung Berg, Crooked I, Slim Thug, Shawwnna, Dorrough, and Jae Millz bless the album so for an Indy we coming with some heat.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
Mel: Right now, I work in house with my boy Vinny Vendito and James Mark … Sexasode Remix was produced by the Renegades so they blessed me on that one shout out the Dj Khaled and Mev.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Mel: Not really, I feel like if you’re doing music for money in this game then you missing the point I get paper its not bout that for me its bout telling stories and giving us cats out here in the grind something to listen to with our ladies ya mean that’s whats its bout for me so i appreciate all the great feedback we get but I embrace the hate …love it.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need that you don’t to make yourself a household name?
Mel: GRIND!!!! and it’s gotta be constant I mean whether their music is the staple point of Hip-Hop cats like Spitta, LIL B, Soulja i mean they stay on the net man you have to keep visible for these people to recognize you as a talent.
24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?
Mel: I love it because despite efforts to subdue it …Hip-Hop is evolving and becoming more than any genre, it’s become a lifestyle whether good or bad its great for the culture.
24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?
Mel: Well my partner and Label head at James Mark Ent is the owner of Glamour Magazine and JM Magazine, that’s making some noise and allowed me to start up my entertainment wing ChiBoiEnt just promoting my own shows and others.
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2011 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
Mel: By the end of the year we will be with a major so Ill come back to yall with that exclusive deals are the table we are biding our time…and as far as separating myself…i mean not to sound cocky but the separation is already to far nobody is on the level where my music is going and already on …NOBODY is in my lane.
