24: What made you want to pursue a career in music?

Ms. Elizabeth: I’ve always loved music and I have a strong passion for it. As a child I looked up to the likes of Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder to name a few, and was so inspired by them. I could see how powerful their music was and how much it touched peoples lives, including mine, and at that point I fell in love with music and decided that I would like to be able to have that same effect on others.

24: What artist in the music industry would you love to have a career similar to and why?

Ms.Elizabeth: I would love to have the longevity of Mariah Carey, she’s been making beautiful music for years and she still sells a lot of records after all this time. The same stands for R. Kelly who is a genius when it comes to writing, so I would love to be able to write consistently the way he does. Beyonce is definitely on top of her game, which is what every artist wants or aims to be. Anytime she puts out a single it’s guaranteed to be a hit. I love her work ethic, so I would definitely like to mirror that aspect of her career.

24: What are some of the things you are currently doing to achieve that?

Ms.Elizabeth: Right now, I’m just working so hard in the studio. I’m recording as many tracks as possible, if I have to record a hundred songs just to get the right one’s then I’ll do that. Some people expect to have a hit over night, but it takes time and a lot of work. For example, people like Beyonce and Usher, record like 40 to 50 tracks, when recording albums and I guess the label selects the one’s that they feel will work. Apart from that, I’m just working on getting tracks out to DJ’s and radio stations over here and in England. I had a video out in London; I was featuring on a track with a British rapper, so that got me some good exposure. I’ve had mixtape features and I’m working on getting on many more. I’ve also been performing recently. I have a few meetings lined up with A&R’s, so basically I’m grinding.

24: If I was an A&R for Jive Records why should I sign you over another artist?

Ms.Elizabeth: I’m very hard working and passionate about what I do. I’m also very versatile, I’m not the type of artist that can only fit into one category, and I feel like some artist’s are strictly R&B or Soul. I can sing and write different styles of music, so if you want a R&B track, I can give you that, if you want a Pop track I can give you that, if you want a Soul track I can also give you that, and my image could be marketed accordingly. Plus the fact that I’m a British R&B artist in New York. I think that that’s something unique because it’s been a long time since the States has had a solo female artist from the UK, so I feel that as well as embracing what you have over here and trying to make it my own, I can also add some of my British flavor, which I feel will give me international appeal.

24: Tell me an artist that you would love to do a duet with?

Ms.Elizabeth: I would love to do a duet with R Kelly, he’s so creative. As far as rap Artist’s Kanye would be great to work with.

24: Who are some of the producers you have been working with and name a couple you would like to hopefully in the near future?

Ms.Elizabeth: I’ve been working with up and coming producers, but I would love to work with, the Neptunes, Kanye, Timberland, R, Kelly, Brian Michael Cox, Mario Winans, Scott Storch, Darckchild…the list goes on.

24: A lot of artist I meet are very talented but sometimes I find that they are looking for hand outs for example an artist might need to pay for their own studio time or mixtape or photo shoot and be less dependant on others because labels love that, what are your feelings towards that statement?

Ms.Elizabeth: I definitely feel that as an artist, you need to be willing to invest in your own career before you can expect anybody else to invest. It’s like, if you don’t want to put your own money into your project then why should anybody else. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always great to have a helping hand, but until you get that helping hand, as artist’s I feel like we need to help ourselves to the best of our ability.

24: After reading this interview and someone wanted to find out a little more about you and hear some more songs where should they go?

Ms.Elizabeth: I’m working on a website right now and will have some tracks available on iTunes soon, but in the mean time, you can just check out my myspace page, which is WWW.MYSPACE.COM/MSELIZABETH84.

24: Is there something you want to say to the people reading this interview or promote before the interview is over?
