24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.
Myko: Wassup My name is Myko, I am a recording artist out of Atlanta, GA. born and raised. Currently signed to Independently Major Entertainment (IME)
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you?
Myko: Well I kind of fell into it, waking up every day either gospel or R and B were playing in my house, depending on the day and the mood..Lol. My life , which has been surrounded by music since I was born, my father who was a singer, his twin who also continues to push me. for as long as I could remember I’ve sung in church, the choir and numerous other functions. Didn’t take long for me to know that music was going to be my life long ambition,
24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?
Myko: Well growing up in The “A” was a unique experience we had a sound of our own
Outkast, Dungeon Family, T.I., Jermaine Dupri just to name a few, made Atlanta a great place to be in. Skating rings became the place to hang out. With so much talent coming out of this one city, it became the hub for the south..causing everyone to migrate here.
24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other artist out now?
Myko: Well, I would say the first obvious thing that makes me stand out from other R&B artist is my stature. I’m 6’5. In a game where the artist don’t usually exceed the 5’10
mark, most people assume I’m a rapper, until I open my mouth, then all stereotypes go out the window. I actually love the element of surprise. My voice, I’ve been told, has a traditional silky tone to it, that probably comes from listening to so much R&B (Jodeci, Htown, Silk, Donny Hathaway etc.) and I would say my swagg is unmatched. With a maturity well beyond my years I believed I’m poised and ready to control my lane and a couple of more..
24: Tell us about what you are working on.
Myko: Right now I’m working on a couple of things. I have a couple of movie opportunities I have the priviledge of scoring and also acting in. My single Take it low featuring Diamond (Crime Mob) is ranked #1 digital internet radio (independent) and # 7 on top 200. Keeps me pretty busy, currently playing on college radio all over the country.Just got signed on to do ultrafest and numerous college tours in the states. Right now I stay pretty busy.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
Myko: Well I had the privilege of working with the late Static Major (Ginuwine, Aaliyah, Missy Elliot,Timberland etc.) The Underdogs(Chris brown,Whitney Houston, Tyrese, Mariah Carey etc.) The Renegades(DJ Khaled, Rick Ross,T-Pain etc.) Monster & Strangers( Big Sean,Mario etc.) as far as producers in the future Rico Love,Timbaland, he has knack for coming up with the next thing and pretty much anybody who compliments my sound.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Myko: Am I happy, Definitely with some of my past records we’ve taken chances by not following the trend and it paid off, so in the end I learned theirs definitely nothing wrong with following your heart and if it’s hot, go with it.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make yourself a household name?
Myko: Branding, marketing, you have to sell yourself. In a business that is so saturated with good music, bad music and free music you have to be able to persuade a fan to spend that 1$ on you when there are so many other artist trying to do the same. These days just having great music doesn’t cut it, you have to get out there and make yourself known become an opportunist.
24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?
Myko: Well it’s kind of hard to say, some people blame it on the internet or on a Soulja Boy perhaps, but I feel with progression comes change, the way we buy music changed thru the internet, the way we market ourselves also changed through the internet. Some choose to complain and some choose to adapt. The ones who adapt thrive. I believe those kinda of artist have always been there they just have a platform now.
24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?
Myko: Well as of right now music is my focal point, but I’m also trying my hand at acting. I’ve recently acquired an acting coach and I’ve had a couple of castings already so I’m excited about that also Ive been asked to do some modeling, which is something I have a little experience in, lol. I’m definitely blessed and I’m gonna go where ever God and the wind take me.
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2012 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artists out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
Myko: Well with everything there’s a progress, I see myself finally getting to the level where Myko is a household name. I know it sounds cliche, but it is what it is. the feedback alone has been overwhelming so far and I believe with the continuous hard work I’m applying everyday, and the music speaking for itself, it’s only a matter of time before that cliche is a reality.
