The two key elements to becoming a successful artist have always been the dedication and the grind that’s put in. What an artist puts into his music and his hustle comprise their credibility and who they are. The music should speak for itself. In Miami, these talented artists dedicate most of their time and effort into making that certified hit, then after, pushing that hit to the limit. From city to city, state to state, they continue effortlessly bringing their music and their city to across the nation.
One group of artists represent themselves to the utmost and comprise those two key elements within their work ethic, they even carry their city of origin with them wherever they may go for the nation to know where they come from. These two young talented artists are known simply as the NMB Stunnaz, it is evident that they definitely put on for the city of Miami. This is the exclusive interview with Iceman and Slim Kid of the North Miami Beach Stunnaz. Let them explain to you why those elements are put to use in their everyday life.
24: First off how’s everything with the NMB Stunnaz, introduce yourselves to the world.
Iceman: Well, right now we have a movement going on. We’re going from city to city, town to town trying to get known, trying to get more exposure. We have a single out now called ‘Clap Them Thighs’ and we have a previous single out called ‘When I’m in the Club.’ We’re just trying to bring out a new trend while everybody is trying to jook, stick, and vibe, so we put all of that into one.
24: So basically how long have you guys been grinding and give me a brief history of NMB Stunnaz and how this all came about?
Slim Kid: Well, we’ve known each other since middle school and we always knew each other rapped because we use to be in the back banging on the lockers free styling and then a couple years ago we hooked back up and talked about it and we were both down for it. So that’s how we became NMB Stunnaz.
Iceman: I was always rapping as a solo artist and I found Slim on MySpace and he was rapping and I was like ‘Damn slim, that’s hot,’ and you know usually when you’re a solo artist it’s hard to do everything on your own, but when you’re a group its easier because you can put two and two together and you know they say two is better than one, so made the group and from there we started making hits. I’m usually on the hook and if I’m not, Slim is on the hook, we’re doing verses together he’s doing first verse, me second or vice versa and it just became a movement. NMB Stunnaz as a group we been grinding for two and a half years.
24: Moving on to clap them thighs what are you guys doing with that single is it being rotated everywhere?
Iceman: A lot of club DJs has it we have it in a lot of strip clubs. It’s in Rendezvous, Club Secrets, Club Angels, Take One, Club Nocturnal, Club Lexx and Coco’s Lounge right now. It’s a movement and it’s not strictly for the strip clubs, it started off being a song for any girl in general because the lyrics on it is clean, but I came on it with that Poe Boy approach and Slim came on it and he gave his little shout out and he ripped it on the verse with the punch lines, he’s crazy on the punch lines, and it was just a hit. The production was by homie Elow production and I co produced it.
24: Now let’s get into your music, I’ve heard a lot of artists say when they write a track the beat speaks to them and tell them what to write, does the same method go for ya’ll?
Slim Kid:Yeah the same method goes for us because you can tell if the beat is a club banger or some gutter shit, you can tell by the beat. So basically we hear the beat and we can decide, ‘Yeah this a club banger right here or yeah this for the streets right here.’
Iceman: I feel the same way
24: When are we finally going to see a mixtape from the NMB Stunnaz?
Iceman: Well to tell you the truth if we wanted to put out a mixtape we could’ve put out at least three of them right now, we have tracks stacked up, mixed down and all, but the reason why we really wasn’t focused on the mixtape is because usually when you get to DJs or a club they don’t want your whole mixtape they want the song your pushing, that one hit, the banger that you have. So instead of doing a mixtape we would rather put out a single that were pushing, less money would be spent instead of pushing a mix tape that nobody wants to hear.
Slim Kid: Basically you have to build your rep because no one wants to hear a nobody, you have to start somewhere.
24: Well when should we expect an album?
Iceman: Well you can probably expect an album before November of 2009 because by then the buzz will be out there with the way we’re grinding
Slim Kid: Hopefully record labels will holler at us or hit us up.
24: Speaking of record labels is there anything on the table right now that you guys want to talk about?
Slim Kid: Well right now we’re just grinding real hard hopefully record labels just look at us.
Iceman: Right now we’re open minded, record labels hit us up, look out for us we’re not one hit wonders we have lyrics we have a whole production so if you sign us you won’t have to worry about where to get our beats from.
24: Not trying to put you guys on the spot, but what would you say sets you aside from all of the other up and coming groups trying to come into the game?
Iceman: Our flow is versatile, if you put me on a Rock beat, I will rip it, Pop, Country whatever I’m not saying I’m Weezy, I’m easy, I’m Iceman, I freeze up other rappers on tracks I do this we have punch lines in Dade County.
24: If your fans wanted to go about contacting you how could they do so?
Iceman: You can hit us up on myspace.com/NMBStunnaz or you can just hit us up on the yahoo nmbstunnaz@yahoo.com
