24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.

Prophecy: I go by the name Prophecy. I’m a young and up and coming artist from the city of Chicago with a deep passion and desire to make music.

24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history, how you got into the game and what inspired you?

Prophecy: Ever since I was a kid, I found peace in music. It was my way to escape all the negative aspects of my life. I grew up around Hip-Hop, and coming from the bottom, I was able to relate to most artists and what they’re experienced. It inspired me to tell my story. It became a dream of mine and throughout the years I’ve fought to make it my reality.

24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?

Prophecy: Growing up in Chicago, it was tough. Compared to places like New York and California, there wasn’t much to work with when it came to music. It’s a struggle for artists out here to get the recognition they deserve. It took a while for me to come this far, but every second I spent getting here was worth it.

24: What makes you unique as an artist and different from other rappers out now?

Prophecy: I’m like no other when it comes to what I do. I’m an artist, not a rapper. Unlike most, I have no image to maintain. This is me. I put my life on a page and people relate. Most rappers rhyme on a page and claim what they ain’t. That’s not what I’m about. I believe in music with a message. I’m not the kind of person that does something just because it’s popular at the moment. I’d rather lead than follow.

24: Tell us about what you are working on.

Prophecy: I’m currently working on my 3rd mix tape “This is Me” which is set to release late April. The title pretty much explains the theme behind it. After the release of my 2nd project “Chicago’s Very Own” I’ve decided to go to higher levels with my music and improve. What I’m working on will be like nothing I’ve released in the past. It only gets better from here on out. My 3rd project will give fans a chance to see how much I’ve truly developed as an artist.

24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?

Prophecy: I’ve worked with several up and coming producers throughout Chicago, but I’ve decided to invest my time into one of them in particular: JroBeats. In the near future, I would love to work with many major producers, like NO I.D.

24: Are you happy with the feedback you’ve been getting from people on material you’ve released?

Prophecy: I’m more than happy with the feedback I’ve received from people. I use it as a motivation to keep going, as well as improve on areas that others feel could be better.

24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make yourself a household name?

Prophecy: Continuously providing good music and great visuals is a sure way to get your name known, but the effort you put in will determine how far you will go. Hard work pays off. If people constantly see you on your grind, they’ll support your movement.

24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?

Prophecy: There’s always room for improvement when it comes to Hip-hop. The current state isn’t bad, but it could be better.

24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?

Prophecy: Outside of music, I’m working on ways to better myself as a person. Every now and then I engage in youth programs to help people within my community.

24: Where do you see yourself going in 2013? How do you plan to separate yourself from other artists out today to get the recognition you feel like you deserve?

Prophecy: This year I plan on going as far as I can. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I’m definitely looking to travel more and perform in different venues throughout the nation. I have big plans for 2013. I’m definitely going to step it up a notch. To separate myself from other artists, I will continue providing my own unique sound and lyrics.
