24HHH: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are?
Sparksdmc: I go by the name of Sparksdmc. I’m a young and talented hip-hop rap artist born and raised in Toronto, Canada.
24HHH: How did you come up with your Producer/Artist name? Tell us about it.
Sparksdmc: I first was given the name from a friend of mine who would always call me sparks when he came over. At first I never understood why he called me sparks until he told me there was a dj with my first name, which is Clinton and since then the name sparks stuck with me. The DMC part was added on later on by myself as a way of saying “the MC” to make my name more unique not causing a confusion with the Dj Clinton Sparks.
24HHH: Where are you from, and what was it like growing up there?
Sparksdmc: I grew up in Rexdale, which is an inner-city neighbourhood in Toronto. Not much is expected from youth growing up in these kinds of structures. Fifty percent of the students graduate on time, there’s a higher incarceration rate for blacks than any other race and most of us come from low-income families. Besides basic necessities, dreams are all we’ve got.
24HHH: Who were you raised by? Tell us your family situation. Got any brothers, sisters, or any siblings? Tell us about your childhood, and how it impacted your music?
Sparksdmc: I was raised by my parents growing up, along with two brothers and one sister. We didn’t have much but my parents always made sure there was food on the table and clothes on our back. My childhood wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t easy. During good times and bad times I always had music around me. My brothers had a music group and got into filming music videos in Africa for major artist such as Sarkodie who won Bet Best International artist in 2013. My favourite artists to listen to were Tupac, Nelly and Lil Wayne and Drake they all had some type of significant effect towards my music.
24HHH:What age did you start making music?
Sparksdmc: I started developing my craft at age 17.
24HHH: What inspired you to pursue making music?
Sparksdmc: I always had a passion for poetry, life stories, and putting words together that were representative of my everyday thoughts. One day I downloaded a tpain app where I decided to record a song for fun word got around and when I showed the song to my friends the song went viral and ever since then I started to progress with my passion for music.
24HHH: What artists/producers do you work with? Or rubbed shoulders with?
Sparksdmc: Right now I’m working with producers Nana bates, Greg and Cxleb. Steve is another friend I’m working with who’s an engineer.

Tell us about your newest single “Mind Playing Tricks”, how did you come up with that, share us the story?
Sparksdmc: My newest single is called Mind Playing Tricks. The song talks about the lives of society being controlled by manipulation. We are set to a certain limit being taught that we cannot be successful pass a certain level without following the pyramid scheme of life. Thus trapping the mindset of people to settle for what they have, fail or give up on achieving the greater things in life.
24HHH: Any new travel plans, what you got going on?
Sparksdmc: In the near future I have plans to go to Ghana and Barbados to shoot music videos.
24HHH: What is the biggest thing to happen in your career?
Sparksdmc: I would say that the biggest thing to happen to me in my career was opening for Good Music signed artist Cyhi da Prince at the Coast 2 Coast showcase. I also rapped infront of Jd era rapping recording artist of Rae Kwan who was apart of Wu Tang.
24HHH: Where can people find you?
Sparksdmc: My fans can find me on Soundcloud, Youtube,Vimeo, Twitter, and Instagram all under the name of sparksdmc. I have a website too which is presently under reconstruction.

24HHH: Where do you see yourself going in 2014 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
Sparksdmc: My main priority is trying to break into the mainstream industry for 2014. I want the opportunity to represent Toronto and work with the main artists out right now. I think what separates me from other artists and will give me the recognition I deserve would be the connection fans get to my flow. It’s a unique sound where people can’t compare me to other artists in the industry.
24HHH: Any last words or shout outs?
Sparksdmc: I would like to give a shout out Shout outs to Oj my director, cxleb, Peterson, Janelle, Henry, Bates, Family. These people are significant to my life because they all helped contribute and support me in my music. I would also like to leave with my favourite say “ Faith opens Gates” I believe with persistence faith and hard work you can open the gate to your success and become great at what you were born to do.
