24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are?
Brandon: We are SwAGG!T, an indie-rap duo, that consist of two brothers who collaborate to achieve all of their hopes and dreams. It’s me, Brandon and my brother, Khary (pronounced like “Kahary”). Khary: We’re originally from Chattanooga, TN, but currently reside in the DMV area.
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you?
Brandon: Music has a ways been apart of our lives, but 4 years ago we started to compose our own music. We inspire each other mostly but our hopes and dreams of achieving great success from this music business inspires us the most.
24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where your from?
Brandon: We grew up in the 90s, which I think is the peak of Hip-Hop. I mean of course, you can’t deny that the 70s/80s, when the birth of Hip-Hop occurred, is extremely important.
Khary: When we were growing up, there were artist such as Tupac, A Tribe Called Quest, Souls of Mischief, Jay-Z, UGK, Nas, OutKast, Digable planets, and many more. Brandon: There where so many talented artist out there that paved the way for many artists out now.
24: What makes you Unique as an artist and different from other rappers out now?
Khary: We aim to attract bonafide Hip-Hop enthusiasts that value an exceptionally produced product derived from mentally stimulating lyrical content and beats that create an authentic bond. Our music is much more that just talking about money, cars and clothes! We created our own style, “Dream Rap”, which is a twist on the traditional style of rap and hip-hop. We combine “chill” beats, which are relaxing, slow tempo instrumentals with a mellow rapping style (to give the product a “dreamy” feeling).
Brandon: Also, our lyrics project many metaphoric relations to achieving individual goals and dreams
24: Tell us about what you are working on?
Brandon: We recently released our second mixtape, “Feel The Dreams” which is available NOW on HotNewHipHop and our first album, “Freshman Year,” which is available on iTunes.
Khary: Our new project, “Hawaiian Airlines,” is a mixtape that we are planning to release sometime later this month. This will be a sequel of our second mixtape, “Feel The Dreams.”
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
Brandon: We produce everything ourselves. But we would like to work with independent producers such as Alchemist, Monsta Beatz, Big K.R.I.T (producer/artist) and Ski Beats.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Brandon: Of course, we are very happy about the feedback we receive from others and very appreciative.
Khary: There’s so many music artists out there trying to live out their dreams, but we’ve been able to attract so many more fans within such a short period of time…we’re very thankful.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need that you do to make yourself a household name?
Khary: The thing about free music downloads is that it’s more about getting exposed than getting paid.
Brandon: Having a well-rounded fan base will help increase your song plays. Plus, having the ability to promote YOURSELF could help you to aim at those targets that you believe would get you in a position that is best for you.
Khary: Therefore, helping to increase your song plays.
24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?
Khary: Hip-Hop nowadays is “lost” in our opinion.
Brandon: It’s mainly that “mainstream” hip-hop, due to those hip-hop “bandwagoners” that jump on the scene claiming they love hip-hop and never heard of anyone besides “[insert mainstream artist here].”
Khary: More people are worried about who has the most money, biggest house, fastest car, etc. Everyone brags about what they have, it’s not real hip-hop.
Brandon: I mean yeah that’s their life, but we believe Hip-Hop is so much more than that.
24: Outside of the music what else are you currently working on?
Khary: SwAGG!T is independent we’ve been getting no sleep…promoting, performing in shows, and networking! Brandon: Yeah, networking…you should always continue to network in this business. Any business.
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2011 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
Brandon: We plan to keep making our motivational music as well as promote ourselves to achieve a broader fan base. Keeping this in mind, we will be featured on more sites and magazines and perform in more shows.
