24: How did you get into doing Photography/Videography?
UnkleLuc: I grew up glued to MTV, so I’ve been into it since my early childhood. I actually found my first camera in my mothers closet and went H*A*M, it was my senior year(2006). I made a lot of semi-retarded short films, if you dig deep enough on my Youtube page you may just find some things I didn’t delete.
24: How would you describe your style shooting both images as well as videos?
UnkleLuc: The most influential period in Visual arts for me has to be the 1990’s into the early 2000’s, I grew up stuck at home watching TV all day, So my style of visuals comes from Directors like David La Chappelle, Dave Meyers, of course HYPE. “Eclectic” would be the word I’m looking for basically. “The Blast” by Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek can almost be considered the blueprint for the style I shoot and edit my music videos.
24: You have recently been shooting a lot with J.Nic$ and creating some great videos so tell me what’s it been like working together because the great chemistry shows up in every video?
UnkleLuc: J.Nic$ makes it really easy, he just tells me what he see’s and let’s me do the rest. There’s never any conflict when we work together, everything just flows and that’s what makes for great filmmaking. Chemistry is the biggest factor into whether or not a Video will come out dope, if the energy is whack, expect the video to suck.
24: I’ve notice your work with C9 members like Phresh James and Lil Champ as well so how did you link up with C9 and what should everyone be expecting next from you and C9?
UnkleLuc: C9 is definitely family, it’s very rare that clients become close friends, especially in such a short period of time. C9 is a collective that I’m very proud to be apart of so expect greatness. Anyone sleeping on it needs to be scribbled on with magic markers.
24: Right now which director would you say inspires you the most and makes you want to take your work to another level?
UnkleLuc: Right now I would have to say BBGUN, as well as Colin Tilley. Especially Collin because we are the same age and he’s killing shit right now with that “Deuces” video for Chris Brown, and Mean Mug for Soulja Boy, the list goes on. It’s a reminder I don’t have to wait until I’m as old as 30 years old to realize my potential. I can do it right now. I’m just trying my best to be patient and hone my skills every single day. I try to learn as much as I can, I’ve only been doing music videos for about a year.
24: Who would you love to work with in the near future that you has not had the chance to work with as yet?
UnkleLuc: I really want to work with Desloc Piccolo. As funny as that sounds to some people, I grew up watching Video Mix, so I’m a huge fan of Piccolo and I think it would be fun. It’s a secret dream of mine to make the best Stickin & Rollin video of All-Time. Other than that, I want to just work with anyone that wants to work with me.
24: From your experience so far what advice would you give to someone who wants to get into doing Photography/Videography?
UnkleLuc: Never become satisfied or complacent about how good you think your work is. My videos have a shelf life that averages 2 months until I think they suck, so except for a hand full. Believe that you can be great, and work tirelessly towards that goal(which is endless).
24: What’s next in line for you that all of the readers should be on the look out for from you for the rest of 2011?
UnkleLuc: Definitely, bigger and better things for every video I drop. So expect more craziness that will make you go “Oh,Shit”, expect to see some collaborations with fellow camera wizards down here in Miami such as Dre Films and Mupalia Pictures. Not to mention some more epics from me and the homie Jahrue. Also I’m working on some short film projects, so just stay tuned.
24: What’s the best way for someone to get in contact with you as well as keep up to date with everything your doing?
UnkleLuc: Just snatch my email off of my website at www.unkleluc.com, please don’t call me(I hate phones).
24: Any final words for the readers?
UnkleLuc: Slut Time.
