24hourhiphop.com sits down with upcoming rapper Vallee from Detroit. He talks about his come up and what his future holds in the rap game. Check out his interview below and let us know what you think!

24HHH: Intorduce yourself to everyone that doesnt already know who you are?

Vallee: Iss V Squad. I’m Vallee and I’m from the 313.

24HHH: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into the music business and what inspired you?

Vallee: I’ve listened to hip-hop for as long as I can remember. I think I really started getting into it when I was like 11 or 12 years old. Ever since then I’ve just always had a love for it. I only started seriously writing and making music this past year actually. Before that, I wrote occasionally but I never followed through with recording or anything like that. I took inspiration from the the art of hip-hop itself and the artists that I listened to. I wanted to be the one making that real, honest music that people can relate to, vibe with, and take inspiration from.

24HHH: What was the hip hop scene like for you growing up where your from?

Vallee: I grew up in a suburb of Detroit called Grosse Pointe. At first glance, one wouldn’t think the hip-hop scene is very prevalent, but when you actually grow up and live here, rap is everywhere. You go to a party and Wiz or Mac or Rocky or even Keef is playing in the background. You look in the halls of the high schools and kids are listening to the latest music on their iPod. You hear hip-hop in the way people talk. You see it in the way some people dress. People really care about it, listen to it, and represent it too. Also, there were some rappers who went to my high school and that functioned as inspiration too because I wanted to do it differently and way better than they were doin’ it.

24HHH: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?

Vallee: What makes me different is that I’m really speaking from the heart and not talkin’ any ish that I’m not about. I’m one hundred percent me and no one else. The way I think and perceive things is what separates myself as an artist because I’m always gonna give it to you the way I see fit and no other way. I’m gonna speak on my own experiences and ideas. Like, for example, I’m not about violence or hate, I’m all peace and love. Guns and violence are a huge issue in today’s society, and that’s not me, so I’m not gonna talk that. I’m trying to push bigger ideas. But at the same damn time I’m still gonna give you hard ass music. So you just do you, Imma do me. Ayee!

24HHH: Tell us about what you are working on?

Vallee: I’ve been heavily promoting my debut mixtape, Digging Thru The Attic, which you can download right here, vallee.bandcamp.com. Also, I’ve been pushing my new music video for “Goin’ Hard” so check that out. But besides that, I’m starting to prepare for my next project which should be dropping before the year’s end. Easy Cheese and I are planning to record an EP at some point. I’ve been talking with a lot of other local artists too just about linking up and collaborating, things of that nature.

24HHH: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?

Vallee: I’ve been working with myself and my producer side a lot, however, some other producers I’ve linked up with are Lil’ Meechie Mays, out of Detroit; LA Chase, out of Los Angeles; and Dj Don Vizo, out of New York; so I’m really bringing a lot of different sounds and styles into my music. My top five producers I’d love to work with in the future: Cardo, Big Jerm, Young Chop, Harry Fraud, and Big K.R.I.T.

24HHH: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?

Vallee: Yeah it’s been dope hearing everyone’s reactions. People are constantly hittin’ me up saying how much they like it and for me to keep doin’ my thing. My family, friends, and fans have all given me really energetic and positive feedback on DGTA. It’s awesome having people support and believe in what you’re doing. I feel extremely blessed to be able to make music that people really fuck with.

24HHH: In todays free download age, what do you need to do to make your self a household name?

Vallee: I’m not against free downloads at all. I think it gives everyone the ability to voice their thoughts and provides endless opportunities for artists. It makes for a very creative and expanding musical environment. With that being said, I think it’s just all about doing something new and creative. Just being yourself, being original. Don’t get me wrong, promotion and marketing strategies are extremely important as well. You might have some dope music, but if nobody knows about it, nothing will be accomplished. You have to know where to put your music and how to get it to the right ears. I’m still learning myself.

24HHH: How do you feel about the current state of the hiphop scene?

Vallee: The current state of hip-hop is one of progression. The subject matter in today’s hip-hop is constantly evolving and breaking new boundaries. The creative minds that are in the game today are second to none. The whole hip-hop culture is doing great in my mind. However, the radio is a completely different story…I’d rather not even speak on it.

24HHH: Outside of the music what else are you currently working on?

Vallee: I’m gearing up to start my freshman year at DePaul University in Chicago. That’s about it.

24HHH: Where do you see yourself going in 2012 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?

Vallee: The rest of 2013 is looking real bright. I’ll be in Chi-town which will bring about a lot of inspiration and opportunity, so I’m looking forward to that. I’m just focused on getting my name out there, doing some shows, and continuing to bring my fans better music each time around. Like I said earlier, I plan on releasing a new ep or album before the year’s out. Also, I just linked up with the Shipped From D’topia fam, so expect big things out of us. I’m just gonna keep doin’ my thing and stay on my grind.
