Introduce yourself. Who are you? Where are you from? What is your background / nationality?
My name is Nxslp (pronounced “no sleep’). I’m from Philadelphia, PA and I come from a, mainly, Latino background.
How did you get your Artist name?
My name, Nxslp, came to me at very difficult time of my life. I was in a space where a lack of sleep became an issue for my health. While dealing with depression, the streets, school and music, I found a new sound that just sounded like what late nights feel like.
What motivated you to get into Music?
Just being from philly plays a huge role in who no sleep is as an artist. From the streets to fashion, art , love, hate, pain and struggle. Mix it all together and that sounds like a strong voice. The rest came from being raised around music in general.
What makes you unique / stand out as an Artist compared to the rest?
One of the things that stands out the most when I hear feedback or even just people talking on social media, is versatility. I have the ability to switch lanes through different vibes, flows and even different genres. Being Latino is a plus because that just makes lane for crossover potential.
What are somethings you would like to achieve and why?
Building a solid cult following is definitely at the top of that list. I also want some major placements on other artist’s records, as far as song writing and maybe even production.
Let our readers know some of the names of people you have worked with. Provide references and write what you liked about working with them
Honestly, the list is short. Besides some of my close friends who grew either with me or around me as real artists who want to make good timeless music. As far as engineering, I’ve worked with a few notable artists in my city.
On a personal level, how would you describe yourself in detail?
Nxslp’s cadence is something that you can feel before you hear it. My music sounds like what four in the morning feels like.
What is your latest single? What are you working on?
My latest single is a record named Nightmare. Something with a lot of energy for my fans since I’ve been so distant from music for so long. Right now my team and I are just locking in on new music and finding records to release and campaign with a new, more subtle approach. So definitely a lot of cool content on the way.
In this music industry, what is something you learned the hard way?
One of the biggest things i learned is that, it’s more than hard work. It took a while to understand that strategy and execution is key, working with purpose is one of the things that helped me get to where i am today.
How long have you been doing music? What got you into Music?
So I started learning how to engineer and record myself about 10 years ago. It wasn’t until about 2013 that i started putting together real records and realizing them on all platforms. What got me into making music? Being around music in general since early childhood made me grow a general love for music and also being from Philly played a huge role because of the streets, love , art, struggle and success.
In 5 years, where do you see yourself in the music industry and why?
So i see myself stamped in the music industry as far as being a household name especially in Hip/Hop & R&B, with who i am today and everything I’m working on now gives me reason to believe that success from my craft is inevitable.
Who were some music influences you listened to while growing up? What do you remember when you think about them?
The list is long but theres a few artist that stood out the most and inspired me and helped build and create who Nxslp is, artist like Aaliyah, Lil Wayne, Drake, Future and Camron. Just how unique and original each artist was during there time is something i definitely remember when i think about them.
To close out for your current and future fans, what are some last words and shout outs you want to give?
A big thank you for the people who played a part in who Nxslp is, like my team and everyone at THE BAKERY STUDIO. A even bigger thank you to my fans that are rocking with me every single day and as far as my new fans, DON’T BLINK.
