In an effort to push a Game 6 in their series against the Lakers, the Magic failed terribly. Lakers dominated defensively and offensively and obtained the 2009 NBA Championship title. Kobe Bryant, who scored 30 points, finally reached his 7 year goal of winning the championship ring without Shaq. Trevor Ariza followed with 15 points, Pau Gasol added 14 points with 15 rebounds and Derek Fisher helped with 13 points. Lamar Odom also added 17 points from off the bench with 3 crucial 3-pointers. Rashard Lewis led the Magic with 18 points and Dwight Howard, who had major foul trouble, was able to muster only 11 points for the Magic with 10 rebounds. Orlando nonetheless was no match for the Lakers who have now won the 15th championship for the team. Coach Phil Jackson now holds the record for leading a team to a championship, with 10 rings for each finger. Even Shaquille O’neal gave congrats on his twitter page saying, “Congratulations Kobe, you deserve it. You played great. Enjoy it my man enjoy it. This is after previous rants about how Kobe would not be able to win a NBA Championship without him. In the end Kobe Bryant was awarded with the Bill Russell Most Valuable Player Award. Congratulations Lakers for an outstanding 2008-2009 NBA season.
