Just today in sports, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez got suspended for failing a drug test. The MLB announced today that he will be suspended for 50 games for disobeying its drug policy.

Ramirez’s agent, Scott Boras, came forward to ESPN that Ramirez didn’t test positive for steroids. Ramirez later explained that the drug was prescribed by a doctor for a medical condition.

These were his statements:

“Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me,” Ramirez said.

Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. He also apologized to the Dodger’s owner Frank McCourt, manager Joe Torre, his teammates, and his fans.

He also stated:

“LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I’m sorry about this whole situation.”

Right now Ramirez has a batting average of .348, with six home runs and 20 RBIs. During his suspension he will be replaced by Triple-A outfielder Xavier Paul. The Dodgers are 21-8 with a 13-0 record at home, which is the best record right now in the MLB.

After meeting with the Players’ Association and his personal reps, Ramirez agreed to waive his right to challenge the newly announced suspension. He will lose almost $8 million of his $25 million salary.
