As the NBA season continues to push forward there has been a lot to take in, from perennial powerhouses, rookies exceeding expectations, and the superstars of the league doing their thing. Here is a quick recap of some of this weeks’ action.
Lakers romp the Mavericks
On Sunday, January 3rd, the Lakers continued to impress by steamrolling the Dallas Mavericks 131-96. Lamar Odom had a great all around game, netting 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists. Jordon Farmar scored 24 off of the bench on 8-14 shooting and nobody even noticed Kobe Bryant’s quiet 15 point performance.
At 23-11, the Mavericks are still one of the better teams out West but this was a hard loss to take. As is often the case with Dallas, they were lead by their superstar Dirk Nowitzki, who scored 22 points.

Iverson faces off against old Nuggets teammates
Near the start of last year’s NBA season the Denver Nuggets traded Allen Iverson straight up for Detroit’s Chauncey Billups in a move that surprised many. While Billups’ addition to the Nuggets helped give the team chemistry and a newfound outlook, the experiment didn’t work out nearly as well for the Pistons.
Iverson has went back to his roots by returning to Philadelphia, the same team that drafted him years ago, and he and his 76ers teammates traveled to Denver to face off with his old team. There was no animosity to be found in the air, however, as Iverson was greeted with love from Kenyon Martin, Billups, and several other Denver members.
Denver stormed off to a 36-27 lead at the end of the first quarter but Philadelphia was resilient and continued to battle back, taking a lead late into the 4th quarter. Denver wasn’t able to mount enough of a comeback and saw their record drop to 21-13 after suffering a 108-105 loss.
Iverson lead the 76ers with 17 points and 7 assists while Nene poured in 24 points while grabbing 15 boards for Denver.

Chris Bosh leads the Raptors past the Spurs
Despite starting out the season relatively slow, even by their standards, the San Antonio Spurs have seemed to find their rhythm as of late in winning eight games during a recent 10 game span. The Spurs seem to be finally coming together but that wouldn’t stop them from falling to Chris Bosh and the Raptors during a recent visit to Toronto.
Going up against San Antonio’s impressive front line consisting of Tim Duncan, Antonio McDyess, and rookie DeJuan Blair, Bosh found a way to emerge with 22 points and a game high 15 rebounds. The win helped improve Toronto’s record to 17-18 in what has been an up and down season for Toronto. Tim Duncan led San Antonio with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
