When DJ Booth published a sobering piece about the wild, humorous, rock star rapper Danny Brown from Detroit not doing well in February 10, 2014—the dark side of musical stardom was unveiled. Danny had at that point recently took to Twitter to reveal his ongoing mental health battles with anxiety and depression, going through addiction withdrawals, and party friends becoming invisible memories when the fun was drying up. DJ Booth made an important insight into how we as trained audience members of modern entertainment have been conditioned to celebrate the self-destruction of our favorite performers from a safe distance, like active participants, then act surprise when they die young like Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, or Amy Winehouse.
Booth called out the media outlets that claimed to support him, but only when he was acting reckless and drug-fueled to snap and post pictures of his outrageousness for the purpose of multiplying their clicks, views, and subscribers. But these exploitive headline hunters will be the first to write Rest in Peace Tributes with as much forced compassion that they can make themselves muster.
