At 18, Bakari started planning his run for political office, and he ran and won the seat as a State Representative in South Carolina at 22, making him the youngest elected Black official in history. He also spoke about filing bills and marching to have the confederate flag taken down in South Carolina, and it was removed after he left office, which you can hear more about above.
