In this clip, Craig Hodges talked about some of the differences between his era and the current crop of NBA talent. According to Craig Hodges, the players today don’t have to conform to the same cultural norms of respectability and professionalism which has led, in his opinion, to irresponsible uses of their platforms.
He goes on to discuss his decision to play for the legendary Tex Winter at Long Beach State. While at Long Beach, Craig Hodges also had the opportunity to learn from (Ron) Maulana Karenga who was a founder of the US Organization (an alternative group to the Black Panther Party focused on “cultural nationalism”) and Kwanzaa. He said going to CSU Long Beach was the most critical decision he made to that point in life. Craig Hodges also recounted being drafted in 1985 and playing for the disgraced former owner of the Clippers, Donald Sterling.
