In the latest clip, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins described succeeding Timbaland as the supervising music producer on “Empire.” While his tenure lasted two seasons, he doesn’t believe the controversy surrounding Jussie Smollett was the cause of the show’s cancellation. Darkchild highlighted that the show’s six-season run was a success compared to the average amount of seasons that shows last.

Darkchild also spoke on producing for more recent artists such as H.E.R., A Boogie, and Summer Walker. The legendary producer also estimated that he’s responsible for 1 billion records sold after stating that he was responsible for 200 million records sold in 2001 alone. Darkchild also described keeping a low profile and preferring to help make an artist from behind the scenes rather than share the spotlight like some of his peers.
